Woman missing for 12 years found living in woods

Image
SketchArwen
In Switzerland, a woman who had been declared missing from her home town of Potsdam, Germany, outside Berlin was found living in the outskirts of the Swiss capital.

A 52 year old woman, she had created a make shift hut for herself and was discovered by a hiker, but had eluded the woods rangers for who knows how long.

When approached by police the woman spoke plainly and said that she didn't want any contact with her family, she was content and seemingly healthy.

She was reported missing in 1997, and when asked why she was living in the woods she spoke of a mission that she had to fulfill, the officer however would not elaborate on the details to reporters.

The owners of the land the woods reside on are looking for a community where the woman can live before they kick her out.

What could make a person live in the woods for 12 years?

    • The lady is one brave soul.We live in such a robotic lifestyle, its no wonder why one would want to leave it all behind.Alarm clocks, dealing with the same everyday grind,I dont blame her one bit. This is something i myself have and am contimplating on doing. She gives me inspiration,as I will one day soon do what she has done if I cant get up enough money to live more rural and be off the grid and only worry about taxes on land I will buy the furthest I can stay away from society. Our government is making te USA less of a freedom country everyday...I praise her,id like to have a girlfriend like her, honey ,your my type of woman......

    • Wow, that's a crazy story. I wonder if she just decided to go live in the woods or something else happened and she ended up there for a while then decided to stay...

    • "This is an amazing woman who not only accomplished the impressive task of staying alive in the elements for 12 cycles of the seasons but emerged a happy soul.

In this German patch of land, I wonder how her personal mission took shape. I wonder what moments and what settings helped to create her new world.

I would love to hear her explain the mission, I also wonder if and how she will react to a life in a different (piece of) land."

    • That IS a fascinating picture -- though I have my doubts that the 52-year-old has been preserved quite so well or has quite the same sense of studied entropy in her fashion sensibilities. Then again, who knows?

I have a bad feeling that I know the real reason the landowners decided they need to ask her to move. I am guessing their lawyer informed them of the legal liability they suddenly incurred upon discovering her presence. Now if anything happens to her, her family (which may be the reason she moved there in the first place) could sue the landowners for everything they are worth. They probably want to leave her alone, and the lawyer may want to leave her alone as well. But he or she has an obligation to tell them about their potential exposure.

Of course, I could be completely wrong -- but actually the landowners WOULD be faced with EXACTLY that problem here in the U.S.

    • There use to be a day when one could live on there own and provide for themselves and have no obligation to any "society". Henry David Thoreau's Walden a good read if your in the market for one; it talks about a lot of relevant issues.

    • Even if her reasons of leaving are unknown. The idea of living away from society, being independent, and learning to fend for yourself sound empowering.

    • Sounds good to me. It's not unfathomable that she just liked living like that.
She obviously wasn't hurting anyone and she was happy and well.

    • :O....y do they wanna kick her out? they obviously didn't even notice her until recently...after 12 years! I don't understand why these people would be so cruel. Kind of nice of them to find her another place first, but I think they should just leave her be....She probably is most happy there. I think they should leave her alone and let her live in the forest...as long as she doesn't bother anyone

    • Maybe she's crazy. She says she's fulfilling a mission.
A mission from who? God? Fictional people?

Does it matter? So long as she's not hurting anybody let her be.

I doubt anybody on this website would last a week in the woods, left to their own devices.

    • She was happy until they found her. Why can't people be free to be away from people if they want to?

Why is she going to be forced to live in a community again? Let her be free like she was... What if she doesn't want to participate in society?

    • "the Bolligen Citizens Community that owns the woods will soon tell her she will have to leave"...???????

She's there for 12 years in secret but then when she's found they want her to leave?

If that is right then the Bolligen Citizens Community are a bunch of jerks.

    • in light of the current circumstances, 12 years in the woods sounds pretty good....no chemicle warfare, GM food, murder. just you, yourself and you
