Brother kills sister for wearing make-up and mini-skirts

Image
unimatrix0
An attractive 16-year-old Muslim teenager was stabbed to death 23 times by her elder brother "to protect the family's honour" after he tricked her in to meeting him at a McDonald's burger bar car park.
Dark haired Morsal Obeidi was the daughter of an Afghan jet fighter pilot who fled the country after the Taleban came to power.
The court was told dark-haired Morsal liked listening to Western music and wearing make up. She also wore mini-skirts and tight jeans and enjoyed going out to discos with pals she met at school.
But instead, her brother, Ahmad, wanted her to wear a veil and go to a mosque for daily prayers.
Although he enjoyed going out drinking with his mates Ahmad did not think it was suitable for his sister to do the same.
The so-called 'honour killing' was allegedly the tragic end to Ahmad's violence against his young and pretty sister.

Is an "honor killing" ever justified?

    • I thought this was interesting.

4:15 "And as for those who are guilty of an indecency from among your women, call to witnesses against them four (witnesses) from among you; then if they bear witness confine them to the houses until death takes them away or Allah opens some way for them."

4:16 "If two men among you are guilty of lewdness, punish them both. If they repent and amend, Leave them alone; for Allah is Oft-returning, Most Merciful."

    • Like all other religions, Islam strictly prohibits murder and killing without legal justification. Allah, Most High, says, “Whoso slayeth a believer of set purpose, his reward is Hell for ever. Allah is wroth against him and He hath cursed him and prepared for him an awful doom.” (An-Nisa’: 93)

The so-called “honor killing” is based on ignorance and disregard of morals and laws, which cannot be abolished except by disciplinary punishments.

It goes without saying that people are not entitled to take the law in their own hands, for it’s the responsibility of the Muslim State and its concerned bodies to maintain peace, security, etc., and to prevent chaos and disorder from creeping into the Muslim society.”

“In Islam, there is no place for unjustifiable killing. Even in case of capital punishment, only the government can apply the law through the judicial procedures. No one has the authority to execute the law other than the officers who are in charge.

Honor killing could be a wrong cultural tradition. It is unjust and inhumane action. The murderer of that type deserves punishment.”

    • If her brother is going out and partying with his buddies what does he expect from his sister. The guy was obviously not a practicing muslim, for if he was, he would have done his best to advise his sister to the best of his ability, and left the rest upto Lord all mankind (not just believers)

There is no compulsion in religion Quran 2:256

“… and if any one saved a life, it would be as if he saved the life of all mankind.” (5:32)

you're mistaking faux outrage for real outrage. Most people like yourself are just using this incident to fuel your agendas. The faux outrage will last only as long as the next controversial topic springs up and like goldfish they will quickly forget this and move on.

    • This is a tragic and terrible story but what makes this kind of thing worse is all the agendas people will push forward using this tragic story.

You have Christians using this as an example of what's wrong with Muslims.

You have pro-Israelis using this an example of what's wrong with Islamic culture.

You have pro-Westerners using this as example of how uncivilized and barbaric the Middle East is.

You have Atheists using this as an example of how all religion is bad.

And the problem is the hypocrisy - honor killings are a product of intolerance and ignorance and they are being countered by intolerance and ignorance often directed at a much larger group and less towards those who have done this or have the potential to do so.

The so-called "Islamic" reasons for this guys ridiculous actions are obviously scapegoated to shine this perceived "Islam" in a bad light (by him, and of course speculators). The guy is an idiot without COMMON SENSE. The media (and all these other people commenting and letting their emotions get the best of them to blame an entire faith they have little knowledge of) does not point out that he's a brilliant leader of the faith or anything less...cause he's NOT. The fool neurotically looked for reasons to let his anger out on his sister, and stupidly twisted what he thought he heard about Islam. THIS MUCH IS OBVIOUS to anyone who thinks before speaking. However maybe not to the person who follows an article, newscaster, or others words just because they read it as fact instead of a very possible assumption or popular opinion instead of dubious flock-mongering idiocy. Yes, there are many radical idiots out there who let their emotions get the best of them in EVERY religion. Why? Simply because in this world, there are MANY MANY idiots, I assure you. Everyones an idiot sooner or later. I know no statistics of this following opinion, however through experience here in NYC, of all the Muslims daughters of rather strict upbringing I know, there are VERY few who dress in accordance to Islamic Shariah, and their ALL having fun dancing, dressing, drinking and doing [pause] whatever in desire they want....let alone breathing. Remember, just as a lawyer can make a rapist look innocent, any nitwit graduate out of a university can make controversy.

      MORSAL OBEIDI
Rest in Peace. For the world will long to be in it without hearing of your young words, stories, joys, tears, and inspirations. Amin.

      I'm not a muslim-hating bigot.

There are "Christians" like this and "Muslims" like this, certain groups of these people believe these kind of events should be Government policy.

Using the State to enforce "morality" is Fascism.

The truths of the Prophet are gone from them. They lust only for fleeting approval of others and sweet taste of earthly power; a poison drink.

    • Religion creates murder about as much as rap creates gangsters?

People murder people. Not religion, not a song, etc...

It all comes down to the heart of the individual. Most religious people, and most people in general would choose not to murder, even those who belong to the same religion as this young man.

When people murder, they always try to pin it on something else. Whether it's religion, music, porn, money, etc.

But we always overlook is the heart of the individual who committed the atrocity.

    • Where were the parents? It seems to me, given the information, that this boy's struggle is believing that his family is breaking apart when all he wanted was the unity and standards of a traditional muslim family. He took matters into his own hands. Who are his friends? What do they say? If he gets the traditional muslim background from friends or a close-knit community of certain muslims that condone that kind of behaviour then that could be the reason why he was capable of taking his sisters life.
      It is tragic.

Nowhere in Abrahamic Law encourages this. This is not Abrahamic Law. This is "Radical Islamic" Law. Why do People have such a problem determining this? Call it what it is..This is not Law according to the Koran or the Bible. This is Sharia Law. Practicing Muslims do not ascribe to this anymore than Christians or any other Religion. In Genesis We learn that Cane killed His Brother Abel. It was not an act of God. It was an act of Man! A jealous act out of rage. Do not blame the Bible for this act of murder. It was chronicled. The Bible does not teach these horrific acts as God's Will. It is brought to focus to show Man's Heart! Christian, Muslim, or Atheist.

    • Before we start pointing the finger at Islam, just remember how many people have died or killed in the name of Christianity. If half the self-proclaimed 'Christians' in the world actually examined the Bible and stuck to it as 'the word of God', then this kind of thing would happen daily.

Rapists would be forced to marry their victims as punishment, slavery would be a common practice (including selling your daughter as a sex slave), child abuse would be even more rampant than it is today, Christians would be at eternal war and kill anyone who followed a different religion, captives of said war would be fair game to rape, and on and on and on.

The Bible and the Qur'an are actually almost identical in calling for a Jihad and the demand that women be subordinate. The difference is that extremist Christians don't even know what their infallible holy document contains, and extremist Muslims do.

This girl is a tragic example of how anyone following religious dogma without thought or question becomes a murderous zealot. I don't think I need to recount to people the amount of killings where the murderer or murderers invoked the name of God as their motive.

Man! Invoking the name of God..Not God, invoking the name of Man. Man! I'm no Catholic, nor am I Muslim. My beliefs are My own. I would not allow the silencing of Atheism any more than Christianity. In America You have that right! That is why People around the World look to America as a symbol of Freedom to choose. We could no more punish law abiding Muslims than We could for all our various beliefs. But when You cross that line, and commit a crime against Humanity, You deserve the full extent of the Law brought to bear against You.

    • KevinLionheart:

Actually, what people don't quite seem to understand is that the New Testament supercedes the Old Testament. That is not to say it cancels it out, because it does not. But all those laws that people were held under, that seem ridiculous now a days, aren't expected. BECAUSE Jesus came, fufilling prophecy, fufilling that law so that Christians no longer have to follow it.

Hence why we can now eat "unclean" foods, get tattoos, etc. Any Christian who knows his basic doctrine knows this. No where in the Bible does it tell you to kill unbelievers.

Jesus hated religion and he disliked the Pharisees who closely followed all those laws. Jesus taught that none of us have the authority to kill or judge anyone else because we are all sinners. An example is when he stopped an adulturer from being stoned even though under the old law she should have been.

Christians follow the New Testement more so than the Old. That's why we're not Jews...

this kind of reminds me of this family in Ontario Canada last year who had a daughter who was caught not wearing the veil and was killed by her father.

I don't think that this kind of "honour killing" is ever justified since there is absolutely nothing honourable about killing a human...or your sister/daughter. I notice that the men in SOME arab family seem to think that they control EVERYTHING...including their women (daughters and wife). This goes back to the whole sexism thing (which is more harsh in the arab world), but I don't feel like getting into it...since I'm sure everyone's heard it a million times already.

No one should die. Maybe they could've disowned her or something...at least that way she'd still be alive and probably under the care of other people who are more accepting or something

your ignorance is quite consistent in the comments you leave.. and you appear to be either sufficiently incompetent.. or a bigot..

in short.. honor killings are the result of a perverted interpretation by secondary sources.. islam itself condemns the taking of innocent life and clearly states that there is no compulsion in religion.. perverted muslims have interpreted otherwise..

oh by the way.. the backwards kings and princes who you think are responsible for encouraging this type of behavior and who were so aptly referred to earlier.. the only reason the majority of these governments remain in power is courtesy of western support.. your inability to even see the situation for what it is proves that you cannot even see past the front of your nose..

      1) The men are acting like girls? How is beating someone and treating someone as subhuman acting like a girl? Try to hold back the sexist comments, intended or unintended.
      2) You might want to proofread. Your sentence structure is barely comprehensible.
      3) Culture is not your friend? Huge generalization. Can you back this up? I'd say culture can be a very useful tool for positive change, however it can have confining qualities as well.

Homosexuals aren't often given the opportunity, they are just killed. Wow, and I thought our drug war was harsh. When someone asks me, what is Israel fighting against, I would say this has a lot to do with the public support. I still regret though that certain kids who could've changed won't get that chance now, or even the kids who were already being raised right. But I do feel this mentality only responds to violence. At the outset of this war, there was a report of a similar killing by a younger teen of his older sister in Israel propper. If anything, this belief of women's inferiority is reason enough to kick all of their asses with a battallion of women. I once had a Palestinian/Puerto Rican American friend who was born in Lodi but forced into marriage in the West Bank. She rebelled and became born again, only to have her father disown her. If you are fighting for civil rights, there are things wrong in Israel, but not nearly as wrong as how women are treated in the West Bank. Israelis do not want to be ever governed by Sharia.

There is nothing humble about using your belief structure to justify your hatred. For that you are a douchbag and deserve to spend the rest of your days locked in a cell, refining your "faith."

Radicalist, extremist muslims are utterly deluded by their gross misinterpretation of the Koran. It never gives anyone the right to take another person's life for any reason as an aggressor. Perhaps this girl was not behaving decently or repectfully of her culture but killing her was wrong. Perhaps ironic, this action will indeed brings dishonour onto to him and his family! Go to hell!

    • Well this happened at a fast food parking lot in Germany where the kids grew up....

Ahmad rammed a seven-inch long knife into his sister's body 23 times — in her stomach, backside, arms, legs, heart and lungs. Morsal bled to death at the scene of the crime.

Another "honor killing.." No honor in that. And in an Islamic state men do this all the time with no fear of reprisal.

He did all the same stuff, but he killed his sister for doing the same things he did, or being similar to the kinds of people he hung out with every day! It's the Islamic double standard.

At least in Germany they are treating this like what it is.. murder.

Good! He should recieve the Death Penalty for His actions. Thank goodness that they lived in the Western World where this is a crime. His Sister received no Mercy. Likewise should He.
