Its a good, meaningful, positive, peace-initiating, all-of-us-need-to-love-each-other kind of speech...
Hhmmm... could be the MDMA connection... all smiles, no problems, all the side-effects are present...
the serotonin should run out after 6months in office...

I am pleased to see this historic event take place in my lifetime. There have been times when I thought I wouldn't see such an event in my lifetime.
I believe Obama's a good man and is what we need at this time. I believe he will be an effective leader of the U.S. as well as an excellent force in the world. I believe we as a nation will begin to earn back some of our former respect not only from within ourselves but also as a nation in the eyes of the world.
I'm optimistic and hopeful again - 3 years ago

My prediction is that he will try so hard to represent everyone and make everyone happy that he'll make little progress, slowly lop off his todo list, quietly embrace a number of Bush's policies, and be loved by all.
Same thing, different face. But I would love to be proved wrong.

"The time has come to set aside childish things."
I agree wholeheartedly. I've been waiting for this day as a voter through 5 Presidential elections, to have a President who doesn't buy into the bullshit partisan dynamic inherited when entering office.
But, as I watched this, I admittedly turned from a supporter to a skeptic, for I'm always skeptical of those in power. I supported Obama. I debated those in my small circles. I voted for the man because he claimed to be a post-partisan politician. Now, I expect him to follow through.

I didn't see it I tried but whatever idk I'm not really into politics but my take is that society glorifies some things, like the fact that he's HALF black and half WHITE!!!! or that he's the one president that spent the most on his inauguration which we obviously don't mind cause well he's the first black president.
Other than that I'm hoping he'd be a good change at least from the crap old president we just had that fucked everything up. - 3 years ago

I believe that both positivity and a new role model like Barrack Obama will influence honesty, hard work, and pride for a new America.

It was substantive. It was a forceful call. The analogues to history were not the easiest ones to draw and for that reason all the more poetic. He spoke of bitter fights in our nations past at Kaison and on our own home front when washington crossed the Deleware in the bitter cold. When I heard him and saw him feet away from Bush say it is a false choice between security and our ideals and to do so resolutely as the president as a prognostication required by constitutional law in respect of American tradition I was vissibly shaken with the feeling of a return to the revelutionary nature of my home. He hailed our ideals as a source of our strength and with the calls to the bitter struggles of our past not always proud ones he reminded us why our spirit is stronger than that of our enemies who seek to utelize terror because our spirit was forged through violent bloody struggle with the idea that all prejudice must die by the pain it inflicts and the breadth of our personal sacrifices for liberty. I felt like a man today being spoken not down to but reminded in a matter of fact fashion that excelence was required not requested of me as an American.

I definitely agree bluestranger. My friends and I speak of Barack Obama's speech at the '04 DNC in the same fashion.
Guy #1 (me): "Dude, I was at my Grandma's house!"
Guy #2: "Really, I was at Phil's house!"
Guy #1: "Wild man, simply wild." - 3 years ago

I had to work today, so I didn't get to watch it. "Not that I would anyways" It's just the same package with a different ribbon on it.
It's like re-gifting a birthday present you didn't want in the first place.
But I'll be an optimist. So time will tell. - 3 years ago

From Inauguration to the Internet: The Web Responds
Serious speech for serious times
While the crowd was joyful, President Barack Obama's inaugural address was not, intoning phrases such as "In reaffirming the greatness of our nation, we understand that greatness is never a given. It must be earned." Searches on "obama's speech" and "Obamas inaugural speech" immediately spiked.A critical review said the somber words invoked FDR. Newsweek said the speech reflected Obama's "zeal to remake America's image in the eyes of the world."
The New York Times called the speech "good, not great." As the Buzz Log reported earlier, the inaugural address touched on themes of sacrifice, change, personal responsibility, and of course, hope.
