Obama overturns 'Mexico City Policy' implemented by Reagan

Under the hotly debated "Mexico City Policy," the U.S. government could not provide funding for family planning services to clinics or groups that offered abortion-related services overseas, even if funding for those activities came from non-government sources. It essentially barred recipients of U.S. foreign aid from promoting abortion as a method of family planning.

Hmm, isn't the best form of abortion to not have sex in the first place??? Or to be smart and wrap ur dart? Come on people, it has nothing to do with abortion. It has to do with STUPIDITY! Listen to your big head, not the little one. Damn, stupid people wow. Life is life, you created it, you live with it....stupid people

Funny. Go tell that to a 15 year old boy. lol Better to educate the 15 year old boy about reproduction and supply him with condoms, and spermacide as well, and teach him that he has to be a man and be responsible and not to create a child unless he can support it.
BTW.....it does work most of the time and lots better than the religious nuts job of "just say no." I know lots of young chastity club girls who have sad moms because they got pregnant. There are lots besides Sarah Palin who took those vowes. It would have been better to teach both the boys and girls about birth control.
Normal people like sex and just because lots of religous people are afraid of their normal urges, its no reason for the rest of the world to be celebant.

The right wing is always carping about all the babies the poor have and how they use up entitlements, but at he same time they do not want them to have access to abortion. the morning after pill, and birth control and family planning in most cases.
So the RW is really anti-sex unless its to intentionally make babies. They are sick F.....ks imho.

plusaf what scientific age do you live in. When Roe v Wade was passed we didn't. Scieintist can witness the creation process in laboratory settings by combining an egg and sperm. The contents of conception goes thru a dance splitting and organizing until it completes and it reaches a point where 46 chromosones are selected and joined to form a chain. This chain can be viewed under microscope in IVF procedures. It is the point where both the egg and the sperm cease to exist and only the DNA of the surviving offspring continue to develop. Prior to this point you have a living sperm and a living egg with its donor DNA so life is present much the same way as it did prior to joining together.
At present we can't seen inside the womb to witness this occurrence but the reproductive specialist can time and map it in their laboratory and pinpoint it in 8 cells round day 3. As early day 5 after fertization, these 8 cells have formed thousands of cells and is called a blastula. The blastula takes control of the embryo and the mothers MRNA ceases to control the egg developmnet and the newly formed entity controls the development of its specialized cells. It is at this point, that the fertilized material implants and identifiable organ cells begin to develop and know their purpose. Any enlightened person would then have to concede that any action after this implantation is interruption to they newly formed person.I know there are those that would argue for the potential of the fetus at conception/fertilization and I don't proclaim to know they are not correct but I am convinced that any action after day 5 implementation is interferring with the life of the creation of a life.

I love how obvious it is that many people who are against this policy obviously haven't even read it and don't know what they are talkin about. This policy does not just refer to abortions, it goes to womens health to get them breast exams and PAP smears as well which are 2 things every woman needs regaurdless of sexual activity. It also goes to sex education to keep them from having unwanted pregnancies in the first place! But then again most people against abortion are also against sex education so I bet they'd rather use that money for Bibles and telling them to pray because that solves everything.
Also for those who are against this financially remember, we are part of a global economy...america does not stand alone and if other countries fall, we fall too. In order for America to prosper, the world needs to prosper. Helping control population booms and failing womens health in other countries will allow them to grow and help us prosper.

I only see them on the streets where I live attacking women who attempt to go into abortion clinics. They never protest for health care for children or anything that would improve their life. Most of the unwanted children arrive in poverty and none of you seem to care about that or a living wage either. Its all window dressing and no substance on your parts.

uhum, Priest? No.
You can ask any scientist if the baby inside a belly, does it have Life, Yes or Not? Is it living it's own Life? No, AND THIS MAKES IT EVEN WORSE! Because the kid cannot decide by himself, therefore is being Murdered!
Do you actually think a 6 weeks fetus is a bag of skin!?
6 weeks is a reasonable amount of time for the women to:
1. Know the period has not come. (Normally, women are most fertile on 14-16 or whatever _normally_) If they haven't noticed they haven't had the period in 2 months (6 weeks+2weeks) then they clearly have issues.
2. The woman can decide if it was a rape or something, in this time to verify if she was pregnant and then abort or decide. There is more than 1 Million abortions Yearly in the United States. Is that a mistake once in awhile!? It has become part of Life.
Do not Joke about Priest as they obviously know 100 times more about you, and then if you don't believe any of this things from me or whoever, ask your source. Ask a Doctor. Is a 6-10 week old fetus with Life already?

i really like this idea. i don't think we'll need to help the E.U., Russia or China at all as they seem to have pretty much taken care of their population problems by generally stopping re-production and in the case of the E.U. importing radical islamic terrorists to take over the day to day operations of their countries. seems to be working.
and of course those darned chinese have limited everyone to one child which has resulted in the wholesale genocide of female infants and thus creating a hoard of young eligible bachelors. hey girls here's an opportunity. how about a vacation in bejing. whew whew
and then there's the russians who are pretty much drinking themselves to death, mostly the guys, but the gals are catching up. i kinda think this might be due to their highly perfected socialism what with all the sharing going on and of course it has now taken the next natural step to facism with the advent of my guy Vlad Putin. this is something we can look forward to over here in the years ahead as our Noam Chomsky friends gather momentum to save us all
I don't know if this initiative stopped the sex part of it, but that could work too.
if i were the new grownups in washington I'd focus on the middle east and africa and india. I think if we can wear down these populations then the world will be better and then we will have peace and plenty of food and global warming will stop and their will be more oil to go around for the rest of us.
this is neat. thanks

Its always so amusing when men are so upset about women's wombs and want to control their fertility . I suspect those types of men have serious control issues. When you guys can get pregnant and nurse and care for a babe then open your anti-female mouths.

There is one sure way not to have an unwanted pregnancy - don't have sex. Everyone forgets about the poor little girls who will never get to make a choice because they were thrown into a trash can before they could ever take a breath. If you give it to a clinic that does abortions, then it will go for abortions because everyone wants their fun but no one wants their responsibilities.

I have been impressed with the President's early progress as well. He seems to have had several policy moves that were "shovel ready" so-to-speak. I recall this bone-headed move by the President who was easily our dumbest up until Dubyuh. I was a freshman in college when Reagan was elected to his first term. Shortly thereafter, I began writing a daily column for the student newspaper. As you might imagine, many, many columns were devoted to Reagan's actions and the policies he advocated or established. Unbelievable. As many of you probably recall, he called his wife "Mommy" and organized as much of his schedule as possible around the predictions of "Mommy's" astrologer. During their long marriage, he wrote many notes to her expressing his love. They were far, far worse than even his worst movie, but I encourage people to read them so they can get a fairly unvarnished view of who he really was -- Chauncy Gardener -- as opposed to the myth so revered by one of our major political parties. Perhaps what was most refreshing about President Obama's inaguration speech was that it was particularly long on substance rather than style. Reagan's speeches were almost always the opposite. To this day, people say that he was the President who made Americans feel good about themselves again after the double disasters of Vietnam and Nixon/Watergate (and the Ford and Carter interludes). Little do those people know but most of us felt better because after listening to Reagan speak we were glad that as bad as things were we at least weren't quite as stupid as our President. Sigh.

I don't think anyone is planning to send a bunch of taxpayer money to Mexico to help them with abortions. As I understand it, the bill was enacted to prevent any recipient of foreign aid from providing or even mentioning abortion as an option - even if the US money did not go to abortions. So, if a clinic in another country wanted to continue receiving foreign aid from us, they had to stop performing or discussing abortion or else the aid would go to a different clinic.

Xian fundies, in their zeal to deny a woman's right to chose, would deny many third world women health care because their local clinic provides abortions. This is and was wrong.
Obama has the courage to stand up to Xian misogyny and say no to ignorance and superstition.
In short, we are now able to fund third world reproductive health care, which is the humane, moral thing to do.

Wow you certainly are judgmental. Like unimatrix said, this is going to fund reproductive health in third world countries which is a lot better than funding war and terrorism which has been what a lot of our tax payer money has gone towards. Hell I would rather my hard earned money go towards reproductive health as opposed to what the government has been spending it on.
Many of these countries have population booms because married adults cannot afford birth control or to get "fixed" as you say. Not all unwanted births are the result of people "fucking around," sometimes it is two married people in love who are poor and cannot afford the luxuries we have here. Or maybe poor people should just never experience sex because sex is purely for reproductive purposes and should never be an expression of love (I would sure hate to be with someone who felt like that).
Oh and also dont forget the high number of rape in other countries. That too contributes to high birth rates. Should these women be punished because of misogynistic societies?
Think before you make blanket judgements on the whole world. Its not like it is here in cushy America. There are a lot of other reasons why people need birth control and abortions aside from being a middle class teenager screwing around.
Oh and these clinics that receive the funding do more than just abortions and hand out pills, they screen for breast cancer, PCOS and other gynecological diseases. They help keep women that are most in danger of dying from gynecological diseases safe and alive to care for their children. Then again Im not surprised people like Bush are against this funding...they dont seem to care much about women, theyd rather focus on making their penis hard with a blue pill than put funding into womens health and research.
