Vatican attacks Obama's abortion stance

Image

The Vatican has condemned President Obama's move to restore US funding for family planning clinics abroad that give advice on or carry out abortions.
One Vatican official warned against the "arrogance" of those in power who think they can decide between life and death.
Another official said it dealt a blow to groups fighting against "the slaughter of the innocents".
The White House says the move aligns the US with other nations fighting poverty and promoting health care.
On Friday, Mr Obama ended a ban on giving US federal money to international groups that perform abortions or provide information about them.
Mr Obama lifted the controversial funding ban in his first week in office.

    • No abortion,no birth control,no orphanages what options are people left with. Abstence ? it hasn't worked for the church so why would it work for anyone else. I wonder what Jesus would say?

Is the Pope opposed to orphanages? I don't know, but I can say honestly that I don't have a problem with them at all. I know that children are going to be born out of wedlock (a huge issue in some parts of the world but not so much anymore in most Western societies) and/or other circumstances that will leave them orphaned and homeless. And I was just catching up with an old friend whom I haven't seen in a while; he recently adopted two Ethiopian children. What if there had been no orphanage for those two and others like them? (With all the wars across Africa, children surely need somewhere to go!!)

    • I am a pro-life gay man, and I'm glad I voted for Obama for *most* of his issues. This is one issue where I cannot support the President or the Democratic Party as a whole (even though there are pro-life Dems). Everyone talks about the woman's "choice", but I ask, what about the baby's choice?? Why is it that people think the baby's life and rights exist only after he or she sees the light of day and not before?

I am also not a Catholic, but I do agree with the Pope and the Roman Catholic Church's position on abortion.

As for the people who say the pope should focus on ending war and hunger and other world problems, my response is, HE IS! As a world leader, the pope has met with other presidents and prime ministers and kings, in an effort to end various wars and to help the people suffering in various parts of teh world. But he can't do it alone. There has to be participation from other countries and especially from the nations involved in the conflicts, etc.

you assume exactly what is at question; i.e. you beg the question.
When exactly does that clump of cells become a person?
The pope says at conception, which is ludicrous. But we would all agree at 8 months the fetus is most likely viable.
I wonder why you think you can determine what a woman can or can not do with her body. Asa gay man one would think you would be more sensitive to issues of privacy and self determination.
I encourage you to think through your position.

Also, I wonder if you are aware that the pope condemns you to hell for leading a gay life? With friends like that you are in no short supply of enemies.

      Unimatrix:

      a) On the topic of abortion, I'm not talking about "viability". Of course a child cannot survive outside the womb at merely a few days or few months old. But it is a human child nonetheless. If the mother doesn't want to raise a child for whatever reason, that is her choice. But give the child the opportunity to live and be cared for by someone who will want him or her.

      b) as for being condemned to hell by the Pope, he isn't the only one saying that. many Protestants believe the same. (a couple of my former close friends have said as much since I came out). But I can no more stop being a Christian than I can stop being gay. (I've tried the latter - with no success, and I don't want to try the former!) Every day I learn more and more about what it means to be a gay Christian, and I learn more about how God loves me and accepts me as I am. I'm not going to stop being gay or Christian just cuz I face opposition from both camps.

    • I find it so amazing that people can tell other people what to do with their bodies, can impose their values on others yet these same people will not give homes or support to these same unborn.

    • You people need to pull your heads out of your asses. He is advocating a woman's right to choose. I'm pretty sure that "kill unborn babies" is not on his to do list.

And how wrong is it that the US government has been withholding family planning aid because they are acting within the law and supporting womens' rights?

The vatican is truly living in the dark ages. They have preyed on human life for years - hording wealth, advocating child abuse by attempting to hide it, strong-arming politics with disregard to separation of church and state... how Christ-like of them.

      Time's up.

    • I want this Story to go up, it is ludicrous if anyone thinks that -any- of the major religions think this is fine. He calls himself a "Christian" or Protestant, yet, he plays on favoritism for people that want to kill to be born humans.

This picture shows a baby that survived a birth on the 21th week of Pregnancy. In the UK, you can abort up to week 24.

    • Who Still Wants To Be in The Dark Ages? vampires seeking innocent blood.

This only confuses more poor misguided souls and adds to the consternation of those seeking to follow Catholic doctrine.

The abortion industry thrives on this confusion.
"Liberals, pro-death, modernist, feminist and all of the other fools harp that the Catholic Church's policies will only serve to keep society in The Dark Ages, yet it is these same frauds that then spare no effort to keep modern technology out of the hands, eyes, and hearts of expectant mothers when that technology might actually stop an abortion. Like blood-thirsty vampires seeking innocent blood, these ghouls are frantic at the thought of losing one abortion to love.

They prefer to ignore technological advances in order to maintain detestable, barbaric murder at any cost for their profit. Now who is actually trying to keep society in 'The Dark Ages'??"

    • If the Vatican cares so much about what obam did they should start caring more about the people around the world who are alive who are dieing from hunger or other sort of things.

    • yeah, I don't think a former Nazi has the authority to tell us what we should and shouldn't be doing with our country.

I would courteously ask mr. pope to go fuck himself.

Catholic leadership doesn't even know what is involved in this issue, anyway. You can't impregnate young boys...
