Obama administration warns of rise in US casualties in the Middle East

The Obama administration warned the US public yesterday to brace itself for an increase in American casualties as it prepares to step up the fight against al-Qaida and the Taliban in Afghanistan and the border regions of Pakistan.

Against a background of widespread protests in Pakistan and Afghanistan over US operations since Obama became president, the vice-president, Joe Biden, said yesterday that US forces would be engaged in many more operations as the US takes the fight to its enemies in the region.

The Obama administration is to double the number of US troops in Afghanistan to 60,000 and when asked in a television interview if the US public should expect more American casualties, Biden said: "I hate to say it, but yes, I think there will be. There will be an uptick."

-Finally, some honesty. When you fight to win, people die. When you occupy a country for profit, the numbers look great. Things are about to change. - Bansheewail, over and out.

It's as if some of the people on this site think that Saddam was good guy; that he never gassed his own; that his sons didn't run rape camps; that the Kurds were not targeted for annihilation; that there was no yellowcake; that there was no mustard gas; that there were no torture chambers; that there was no international coalition. Wake up!

Samthesixth (you're a lurker so I doubt you'll even read this),

Nobody is oblivious to that. The facts on the table is that 9/11 was not about Saddam gassing his own people.

      WAKE UP!

I agree with bansheewail... "Honesty is always the best policy". it may not be the best resort for everyone but at least be "HONEST". A wise man once said... "if you're going to lead me blind folded, the least you can do is tell me what direction the wind is blowing." However, did someone say "Iraq is now stabilized"?

Pleeeeeease, I beg you to direct me to your sources. 'cuz obviously we're getting our info from two different places.

Yo! Bansheewail, thanks for the post... good to know.

      Imminint,

Not sure what a "lurker" is. 9/11 had nothing to do with Iraq, I agree. I agree Bush was opportunistic. I am saying that there was some justification for removing Saddam and that most of it predated Bush. Do you disagree about Saddam's character? What would you suggest should have been done with Saddam during the 1990s?

The fact of the matter Banshee, is you don't retaliate against the wrong country when America is attacked. Plain and simple.

You don't finish an old war when there's a new problem at hand.
