ADHD drugs cause hallucinations in children; psychiatry pushes hallucinogenic drugs for profit

Image
JackHerer
(NaturalNews) New research published in the journal Pediatrics reveals that the ADHD drugs prescribed to millions of children are causing them to experience frightening hallucinations. Children on these drugs hallucinated that snakes and bugs were crawling all over them, says Reuters, and some kids taking the drugs experience other bizarre psychotic side effects such as thinking they ran into a wall and falling to the ground even when no wall was present.

ADHD drugs, of course, are powerful psychotropic mind-altering chemicals that are often molecularly identical to street drugs. The industry of psychiatry is virtually owned by Big Pharma, which hopes to drug every child, teenager and adult with at least one mind-altering medication.

    • In 2000 when I was 9 years old i was on some sort of adhd meds (I forgot what one, hopefully it got banned) and I couldnt sleep one night and was up till 4 am (that NEVER happened before then). Suddenly my face changed in the mirror and i heard crazy evil laughter (very scary) and saw snakes slithering on the floor, and when I went into a diffrent room (well lit bathroom) I started hallucinating skulls and snakes. I'm pretty sure i was in a state of terror for months and no 1 belied me they thought i had a night terror (I was convinced otherwise, as I was nowhere near falling asleep when it happened. They just thought this because everyone else was sleeping and they assumed I was too.). Well at least it never happened again even tho It was years before I lost the fear of it happening again, and months before i could sleep in a room by myself, as i never knew the cause until i got much older. Im like 90% sure this ruined my childhood, have to say I perfer the colorful and funky hallucinations I get when i trip on acid and shrooms from time to time.

    • Your expression of your genious is defintely backed up by your arrogance- especially since we are talking about children and not almost genius college kids.

I'm sure parents will stop giving their 5 -10 year old something that the doctor prescribed to keep their kid productive in school....especially since so many kids are on it and children with disorders can express themselves so clearly.

    • What bunch of crap.

Nothing is perfect, but in case it isn't obvious, having ADD sucks.

I only wish I had discovered Ritalin before my junior year in college, because my ability to focus would have made school even more of a breeze than it was.

If you see bugs crawling all over you, stop taking it. There you go, problem solved.

    • It boggles my mind to even think of how we can assess a child's brain chemistry when it is proven our brains are not fully developed untill our mid-twenties...... When I grew up the motto was: "Just Say NO!!"....Now we are teaching our children to take drugs for being children!!!! They will never know how to properly deal with life and their emotions/relationships so then they are led to believe that more drugs will help them cope with reality... Too bad we didnt just give them the proper dose of reality (the best drug Ive seen so far) when they were children.

    • It is important too understand that practise and research shows this class of medication "stimulants" are the oldest group of medicines used in psychiatry and the safest. The problem comes when you have non psychiatrists prescribing this medication with no experience using it. We saw the same phenomina with Prozac which was blamed for causing suicides. Stimulants used at the higher end dose ranges can cause hallucinations which is why only an experienced clinician should prescribe it. This speeks more to the need for more trained clinicians rathen then the medicine itself.

    • I know this truth oh so well. As someone who's dealt with ADHD my entire life, I've taken my share of these approved "medications." I used to fell like ants were crawling over my skin, and sometimes felt like i was sitting on needles. No wonder, the drugs often made me very very high.
That's not where the bad news stopped, however. I often found it very difficult to eat after taking these meds. I could be extremely hungry but I could never force myself to eat because food always repulsed me for a reason I cannot explain. It was like my stomach could crave food, but my brain was denying it. So weird, and very unfortunate and annoying.
I know what I'll say now is scorned by many people, but I've found that a puff or two of a cannabis joint helps my ADHD in the morning more than anything I've tried. Of course, I live in Indiana, where it is still very illegal. It helps my brain chill out, I can concentrate very easily, I can eat (and enjoy doing so), and I don't need to get the freaky high like I often experienced with those horrible stimulants I am STILL being prescribed.

    • Parents need to be aware. They need to be able to distinquish between a real problem and a child who simply just likes to play and run, and not be afraid to discipline their children for fear that Oprah will have some 'psychotherapist' on telling parents that to discipline their children makes you a bad parent because they will give their kids a complex.

Many doctors are too quick to get children hooked on drugs to make pharmaceutical companies money as well. Parents who are informed about this can better assess any diagnosis to make an informed decision as they know (or should know) their children better than anyone else.

    • Alright people, let's get things in perspective a little here. First off, the posted article is just some blog entry, I wouldn't even call it an article, and far from journalistic. The author also has a strong bias against hallucinogenic drugs but that's off the point here.
Just please stop posting superficial pieces like that, they waste all of our time...
I'm against giving children these drugs and think ADD/ADHD are over-diagnosed and could best be treated by lifestyle changes (e.g. play outside in nature with other kids, more parental attention, less TV, etc.). Easier said than done though...
However, only 850 children out of 2.5 million suffered from temporary hallucinations (see link), that's way less than 0.01%; hardly a number to get me away from my bong and start an internet campaign.
And Mr. JackHerer, I don't think psychoactive drugs should be used by children in development, and Marijuana is one of those too, natural or not.

      Good clarity on the subject.

There's much to be said about profiteering and over-prescription, but it's essential to focus on the truth rather than focus only on what fits an agenda.

    • sammysoul:

Ignorance is great, because almost every other civilization prior (to us making Cannabis illegal) commonly used cannabis as a medicine for all ages with no problems. Most groups of peoples even had pregnant women use cannabis during pregnancy for various pain relief, reduction of swelling, morning sickness, etc...and none of those children came out with serious problems or society wouldn't be where it is today.

You have to understand that not all cannabinoids in Cannabis are psychotropic. Numerous cannabinoids have the opposite effect and regulate highs. These same cannabinoids are creating medical miracles with "0" psychotropic effect. Such as the use on MRSA (med resistant staph infections), that they can completely kill with amazing anti-microbial properties.

The science is there. Its closed minds that prevent the research. Cannabinoids could very well be a link in the regulation of ADD/ADHD sypmtoms, but until the public is willing to support research of a drug that can not hurt or kill these children (as opposed to the numerous prescription drugs that do have serious side effects) we will never know.

    • Dextroamphetamine, an ADHD prescribed drug, is what we called "speed" or "Dexies" back in the 70s. It has a very similar molecular structure to LSD.

    • If someone is given a false diagnosis, taking medicine for it can be potentially destructive. No one should be quick in giving their children ADHD medicine, especially if they were just diagnosed. However, extremely low doses of amphetamines can help kids with real ADHD so much. I was diagnosed with ADHD in junior high, and was put on Concerta (kind of like Adderall + Ritalin divided by 2) and it helped me be just... normal. If I hadn't gone on it, I probably would have ended up dropping out of school.

    • I think the diagnosis for ADHD is a little off. The medical world seems to have problems diagnosing a serious medical condition with kids who enjoy running around and being active. Parents also need to take the initiative and stop being pansies when they can't handle hyper kids. Pills can fix everything until someone dies or goes crazy.

    • I just saw an article on psychologist are prescribing these mind altering drugs for nearly everthing and even making up ailments for there prescriptions. Where was this ADHD when I was growing up? There was no such thing and we all made it just fine. What in Hell are they doing to our kids anyway???

    • Dr. Mikuriya reported in 2006 in O'Shaunessy marijuana magazine that a 15-year old child was brought to him by his mother. He had been diagnosed with ADD and psychoses and had been given over 30 different kinds of drugs including pulverized kitchen sink, most of which made him combative and worse. He had used marijuana at age 11 with older friends.

It had a calming effect but his use brought police action and three court ordered rehabs which really drove him crazy. His mother found Dr. Mikuriya who prescribed Marinol which worked. A judge would not let him use ut, but a second judge did allow it and he got a marijuana permit and smoked it with dramatic improved results.

    • I also have headaches, nausea, diverticulosis, and arthritis which are what I would really be using it for but for me it has helped my ADHD that I have been dealing with for 30+ years. I am not sure about using it for children, but speed isn't a better option either.

    • If ADHD drugs (which are stimulants like methamphetamine) are given in doses too large over time hallucinations could result. However, this is a scare article. Here is direct quote from this article: "Sure, the skeptics will attack meditation, crystals, prayer, intention, chiropractic care and even herbal medicine (all of which can be healing, by the way)"
Well, frankly, I don't want to trust medical care to most of these things, especially crystals.
Secondarily, the recommendation for using pot for ADHD is bad one. It might reduce hyperactivity but it wouldn't help any individual with ADHD to focus at all.
Marijuana has its uses, such as in tea for menstrual cramps and simple muscle aches, but as a drug for a neurological condition it's just crude and no better than a Big Pharma tranquilizer. Worse, probably, if it's smoked.

    • ampersand:

This is an ill-informed statement. I would not trust many of the other forms, but I do believe not only could Cannabis reduce hyperactivity but it could most definitely help focus. Helping people focus is one of the major reasons many users intake cannabis. Damaging from smoking? Possibly, but thats why lower dosages in edibles would be ideal for children.

Cannabinoids are being shown to improve healthy epithelial cell growth as well and encouraging brains with damaged cells to regrow healthy brain cells- the analogy of broken egg being your brain on drugs is no longer valid for Cannabis. Science has proven otherwise. As recently as a month ago, Ohio St. found that cannabis helps Alzheimers patients, reduce suffering from dimentia, regrow brain cells, and improve memory- pretty much exactly opposite of what most people think and the government has told you much of your life.

    • They way that drug companies are encouraging psychologist to prescribe drugs to their clients is outrageous. Psychologist and psychiatrist are given pens, posters, mugs and hundreds upon thousands of "demo packets" to give to their clients!
"give this a try, if you'll like it, come back for more!"
My little sister started to go see a psychologist weekly. By the second week, after spending a total of 2 hours with the guy, she's told that she should be on anti-anxiety meds!
I don't hate psychology, in fact i hope to someday be a psychologist myself, but i plan on changing the way we use drugs, especially on our children!

Wow! I just commented on the fact that cannabis use has helped me, and now I see a doctor who feels the same way! Unfortunately, Indiana has not ok'd medical cannabis, so this doesn't help me yet, but I'm glad that some children are getting the help they need.

      It honestly works.

    • JackHerer stop destroying the major plan. You cannot see the big picture. If we are all on drugs then we can all be happy! Don't you get it? Gosh.

At first the hallucinations are mild like bugs and running into walls, but they get better! Some hallucinations involve apathy. And well, we all know what apathy does to the human mind, it numbs it. And if it's numb do you know what can happen? Do you!? It means I can finally take over the WORLD! *The Pinky and Brain theme song is playing can't you hear it? Take another Ritalin....aww... Now you here what I hear. *

All bullshit aside, these cock sucking bastards will sell their left nut, their child and then ours if it meant they get to make a buck.
