In a not so surprising move Georgia Congressman Phil Gingrey shows the stalwart and unequivocal leadership we have come to expect from the Republican party.

    • Wow, the article to which you refer is just chock-full of nonsequiturs, isn't it" Describing Hannity, Limbaugh et al. as "conservative giants." So close, but no cigar. Just move a couple of letters...and voila, the more accurate description: "conservative gnats."

Then we get the phrase the describes the aforementioned pests as the "conscience of the conservative movement." Oof. Hearing that one nearly gave me a "movement" all right. OK, so THAT was a bit tasteless of me. But really...next they are going to start talking about "compassionate conservatives." The reason you don't hear about "compassionate liberals" is, of course, that the "compassion" part can be assumed. The only reason to add "compassionate" to your political label is when you know that nobody has ever thought about your political philosophy as being compassionate before and are unlikely to believe it now unless you actually openly allege compassion every time you describe yourself in the hope that somebody, someday will actually believe you.

And by the way, shouldn't an elected official ALWAYS be compassionate? I mean, how can one adequately represent a constituency WITHOUT being compassionate toward their needs and interests. Only the conservatives would find a way to act like being caring is some big deal and that they should be applauded for going out of their way like that, when it is not actually REQUIRED of them...Yeeesh!
