the government we have is the government of the bush administration - low regulation.
we leave it to corporations to monitor themselves and this is what we get.
in china, there would be a death sentence - certainly.
not that government has to control industry, just that government is responsible for the protection of its citizens from threats internal and external.
THAT'S why we pay taxes - 3 years ago

There is a national crisis for employees in public health fields. These individuals do inspections for restaurants, food processing facilities, hotels/motels, swimming pools and so on. The problem, in part, is due to low wages, lack of quality supervision, workers retiring and less on-the-job training. The other part is that people doing those type of inspections are poorly paid to enforce "toothless" codes. Hopefully, on the Federal level due to the number of deaths, we will see some positive action.

Because repugnants are selfish and incapable of feeling human suffering, they are all about the god almighty buck. Fuck the rest of us.

This is simply because of little regulation. Why do Republicans insist on believing that the free market will be perfect and not need regulation? It is ABUNDANTLY clear that corporations can not be self-accountable. They are in search of a profit and they will lower the bar as far as they can in search of that profit.
This is just disgusting and horrible.

Lets just see if anybody from corporate headquarters gets charged with murder. None will be because corporations have more rights than you or me. But if you or me knowingly let something we created kill 10 people you can bet we would be on death row.

...this is all more 'reason' for the government to try regulating food. something the government should never do.

I hope this isolated incient doesn't cause some sort of panic wherein people demand more inspection, stiffer fines and more government regulations.
Surely we can all agree that the best course of action is to simply let corporations do whatever they want but then give them disapproving looks as we bury the bodies of their victims.
A stern look is more effective than, say, a government inspector physically verifying safety compliance.

At first they said, only worry about crackers and cookies. I think it is at a point now where we need to avoid it altogether? There goes my PB and banana sandwich favorite:)

This makes me sad, as I eat peanut butter in almost everything. PB granola bars, PB cereal, etc.
