A.C. Grayling
There are two rarely noticed facts about drugs. First, almost all human beings use them - alcohol and nicotine included. Secondly, drugs became illegal less than a century ago, first for soldiers in the First World War, who used them to combat the horrors of the trenches, and then as part of the “prohibition” lunacy, in which both drugs and alcohol were banned in the United States. As Prohibition proved, outlawing things is a godsend to criminals, who are energetic entrepreneurs and who will provide what people want at great profit to themselves and great cost to society.

Lots of professionals and everyday people smoke cannabis and lead perfectly normal and productive lives. It's time to change this irrational mentality that has put the negative spotlight on Cannabis!

So how in the hell do you regulate weed? How do you prove someone smoked up before or during work? How do you prove someone smoked up before or during driving? The only way to prove anyone smoked at all is a urine or blood test, and even then you can't tell WHEN someone smoked, or how much.
And if you say that people can smoke even then, then you're not regulating it.

how would you tell that people dont drink before work? how can you tell that the person driving the car next to you didnt have a beer or two before they started on their way.
Your arguments are flawed. What I dont understand is that you claim to be all about peoples rights yet you try to suppress their right to toke up, and let me guess you dont have a problem with people enjoying a beer with dinner? Questionable belief system.

Yup, to make something "bad", sometimes all you have to do is declare war on it and make up propaganda accordingly. The only problem with drugs is, they are more easy than sex, and than can be problematic in the wrong hands.
Take the profits (incentive) away from the criminals, and you won't have any more criminals in that area.
Alcohol? Is John McCain's wife and her family criminals?
Legalize weed for spiritual introspection?

The government can regulate and tax anything. How would regulation of Weed be any different than alcohol or tobacco?
Yes people would grow there own weed, but as a capitalist society connivence and safety will tower over self supply.

one of the main reasons they will never legalize marihuana is because it will be nearly impossible to regulate it and will be nearly impossible for uncle Sam to tax it, when used as it mains porpose "recreationally". Mariguans is well... "a weed" it grows ANYWHERE. If it's legal., why wouldn't anyone be able to grow of in their backyard? sure there's the comercialisation of HEMP, but would take a while for thaat train to get going.

Decriminalization is not the answer. Legal Weed will provide the US with a minimum of an additional $13 billion.

if you can tax weed, it will never be legal. the way things are now the gov. needs to make money off of everything they can, not legalizing weed so people can grow and sell for their own profit. im sure the tax the hell out of those medical marrijuana places.

decriminalization would Defenitly empty Jails, prisons. Hemp could have also competed against clths better, and last century Alcohol was illegal too, more evil than pot, but moralists could get more F$%^ed up so back it came.

legalize and regulate. Pure and simple you will never when by telling people what they cant do.
People are going to do what they want and hope they dont get caught.
In a system that actually cares about the people they would have realized that the first time a prohibition failed.

I don't think it should be a matter or arguing why to decriminalize it, but why is it still illegal? That's what should be asked.
It's harmful? No, a lot safer than alcohol, and even caffeine. Based on a 30 year research by the British medical journal, The Lancet, smoking marijuana has proven to not do any harm to the human body at all. It's mind altering? Not as nearly as much as alcohol, and with the right tolerance it's barely mind altering at all. Gate way drug? That's proven to be false for quite some time now. Millions of people smoke pot and are very anti-hard drugs and actually a lot of pot smokers are anti-alcohol as well. Drug war a success? Not even nearly, seeing how it's been illegal for over 80 years and almost half the nation today has smoked pot. Decreases crime? Keeping it illegal will maintain the crime rate, if not keep on increasing it. You can eliminate all pot-related crime if you decriminalize it.

If you ask me people just aren't ready for this quick change. Imagine if one day something was illegal and the next day it becomes perfectly normal.
No doubt about it people would go wild. It's also "forcing" people to instantly changed something that's been engraved into their minds! If weed was legalized tomorrow there would still be a strong "criminal" stigma attached to it.
