Obama Seeks Study On Gays In The Military

"Obama is committed to overturning the so-called "don't ask, don't tell" law but wants to be able to make the case that its repeal would be in the best interest of national security, The Boston Globe reported Sunday.

To do that, Obama is asking the military for a comprehensive assessment of such a move, which may not be completed this year, the Globe reported.

Obama wants to avoid the fierce resistance encountered by the Clinton administration, said Aubrey Sarvis, an Army veteran who represents gay military personnel discharged under the current policy."

Do you think this type of study would help Obama in an attempt to end discrimination against gays and lesbians joining or active in the military?

    • I think it's a smart move to do research, and to make the case. That if he can't win on the argument of not treating gay people as second class citizens, he can win on the fact that it helps the military and there is no reason why gay people cannot serve.

Though it seems a little suspect he is going to the military for the studies, as it is the military with the policy.

      Bravo Obama!

    • I think this study would be a waste of time and money. It sounds like a way for Obama to put off more CHANGE. The British recently repealed their anti-gays in the military laws and don't our soldiers work with the British in Nato and Iraq?

      Do it now Obama!
