The man was caught attempting to fly to the UK from Pakistan using a fake passport and detained initially in Guantanamo. He was later transferred to Morocco where he was reportedly subject to seriously physical torture. According to reports the man had his genitals sliced with razorblades during interrogations. He was then transferred for several months to another location during which serious physical and mental torture techniques where used. At one point the man was suspended by leather wrist straps in a stress position and only fed every 2 days.
He has maintained his innocence throughout.

The US needs to grow the **** up. If it keeps doing this its enemies will unite against them and force them into submission.

The treatment dished out in Guantanamo seems to have been the least of this man's worries.
His transfer offshore to other facilities run by foreign intelligence services with interrogation methods akin to those seen in a horror movie would have been more traumatic.
The concept of unending mental and physical torture, then being transferred elsewhere for more torture, alongside being told that you do not have access to lawyers or any protection. Imagine you hadn't actually done anything and were simply guilty by association? It's the stuff of nightmares.

the 'headline' is misleading. He starved himself. I'm not sure I believe this guy. There was some reason he was arrested and not another man. The cost of keeping him is reason to let him go if he's innocent. He's not being forthright.

It seems to me that the republicans have gotten away with way to much in the years that they had control of the house and the senate, even during the Clinton years. The party has played on religion and fear quite well...Yes we had a tragedy of epic proportions but our reactions to the event have left me wondering...are we christians, we Americans who are supposed to believe in justice for all, are we any better than the terorists? It is time we became more vocal about our government, on the streets just a serious honest conversation overheard by a christian republican in a restaurant can do wonders.

Actually, some of the intel gathered from here and the UK showed that he had some ties, though very loose ones. Still, this is no way to treat anyone.

Kepano said: "This is a Bush Administration injustice and he should be charged with Crimes against these people who claim have no terrorist ties"
Kepano - there are political organizations and activists that are trying to do just that! Check out these articles:

Keep in mind and always remember that this was not America's idea, but George W. Bush's and the rest of his corrupt group of hooligans! (I myself never approved of this facility, neither did any one of my family members. And I know of other people who despise this whole camp and it's concept of torture!)
So when you say "America" - please do not include all of it's citizens who never approved and accepted this whole concept in the first place! (Myself, my family, and many others included!)

I thought the commander of this American Military Base said on TV that America does not practice such techniques, what a bunch of bull shit on the American Governments Part. This is a Bush Administration injustice and he should be charged with Crimes against these people who claim have no terrorist ties.

After working for a year and a half to arrange media access to the camp, Current's very own Adrian Baschuk reports from the controversial detention center in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
It's a great insight into such an infamous institution.
