In this USA Today article, you will read, “Hemp products still account for only a small percentage of the $15 billion a year market for organic goods, but the Hemp Industries Association says sales are rising by 50% a year. Gero Leson, an agricultural researcher in Berkeley, Calif., says hemp products will account for about $15 million this year in retail food sales and $40 million in cosmetics and body products.” This was an article that was published in 2005. Imagine if we legalized hemp how it can help jump-start this economy. Think of the products which are American products could be sold to consumers. Think of the industries that can spring up surrounding this commodity.Back when this article was published, they wrote, "Canadian farmers planted more than 24,000 acres of hemp this year, nearly triple the 2004 total." Why not give the farmers in this country a chance when so many have been hurt and allow them to grow these crops which are not only financially beneficial to them, but to our economy as a whole?
Will our elected leaders think this idea is meritorious or stick to their old ways of thinking? Maybe it is about time that we as a people who do see the merit in legalizing marijuana and other products that come from it, should be the ones nudging our politicos along.
I know that this idea will be met with scorn from various anti-drug organizations, but as commercials remind us to drink responsibility, newer ones can say, smoke responsibly.

ADVANCES HEMP HAS TO THE US ECONOMY:
(1.) 1 acre of hemp will produce as much fiber as 2 to 3 acres of cotton. Hemp fiber is softer, warmer, stronger, and more water absorbent than cotton, and lasts twice as long as cotton. Hemp is naturally hardy and drought tolerant and grows well without herbicides, pesticides or fertilizers. Twenty-five percent of all the pesticides used in the U.S. are applied to cotton.
(2.) 1 acre of hemp will produce as much paper as 2 to 4 acres of trees. Trees take hundreds of years to grow and hemp only takes 4 months to grow. We just found a solution to saving the trees! Hemp paper can be recycled 7 times, wood pulp 4 times.
(3.) Hemp seed oil can be used to produce non-toxic diesel fuel, paint, varnish, detergent, ink and lubricating oil. We just found a solution to use alternative fuels for cars rather than being defendant on oil! (Or fossil fuels) HEMP ETHANOL! Here's Vanguard Video on Ethanol: http://current.com/items/89110290/food_fight.htm
(4.) Hemp seed is nutritious and contains more essential fatty acids than any other source. Soybeans come in second place. Hemp seed is not psychoactive and cannot be used as a drug because THC levels are too low to get high! Hemp is not marijuana.
(5.) Hemp fiber can produce cars. Over two million cars on the road today have hemp composite parts for door panels, dashboards, luggage racks, etc. They are doing it in Germany for Mercedes and BMW.
FACT: Hemp is Earth's number-one biomass resource. IT IS A BILLION DOLLAR INDUSTRY and would stimulus the economy and generate jobs in a massive way!
Marijuana FACT:
-Deaths from marijuana use: 0
-Deaths from aspirin (U.S. per year): 180 - 1,000 +
-Deaths from legal drugs (U.S. per year) at doses used for prevention, diagnosis, or therapy: 106,000Why not legalize marijuana? Why not use it as a medical use nationwide? It would be no diferen't for alcohol use. The harmless drug would hurt the black market. It would save tax dollars from nonviolence offenders. THE DEA SHOULD BE FOCUSING ON THE REAL HARSH DRUGS LIKE COCAINE AND HEROIN RATHER THAN HARMLESS MARIJUANA WHICH CAN BE USED AS A NATURAL RESOURCE OF MEDICINE.

Not Only would we pay our debt off and benefit to use as a natural resource to industrialize many things but it would make it even more difficult for drug dealers and traffickers to make an underground profit because the plant would be easy to obtain. The only reason people say it opens up doors to other drugs that ARE harsh like cocain, meth, ect.. is because propoganda demonizes it and tells the world that marijuana is a bad drug. Once young people try the supposedly "harsh" drug marijuana they think well if this isn't bad then cocain and meth might not be as bad as they say it is to be.
If marijuana were legalized it would not only boost our economy but it would change societies crime in a positive way. Crime is done because of illegal selling. But if it was made legal, then there would be no crime to fight for except for the TRUE HARSH drugs like coke and meth. - 4 years ago

A lot of things can stop being cut if we leave taxes as is when running in a surplus instead of cutting taxes. I hate taxes but things need to be paid for no matter what.
Lets get ourselves out of debt with China and whoever else.

Even so there are still those that are aware of the environmental and economic benefits. If there are people who otherwise are law abiding that want to be able to smoke marijuana without risk of jail time, they could do so and it would still free up wasted tax money.

I'm all for the legalization of pot, but let's face it, many people just want to smoke it and could care less about the economic consequences of a full legalization. :]

this would be the best way to solve the problems of our nation. but its too simple of a task and not enough of the corporations have in on the pot industry so if the rich guys wont get richer, they dont see any point to help the rest of the nation who are losing their jobs.

Don't you mean cigars?!? As for the debt, if we weren't slapping so many taxpayers in privately owned prisons, and lowered our dependency on corn, which needs too much fertilizer, insecticide and work we could well be on our way. Corn based biodiesel farming could convert over to hemp which in turn would lower food corn prices. All these prisoners could be free and have jobs and add to the economic structure!

Imagine going to a tobacco shop or liqueur store and buying a six pack of legal safe marijuana joints for twenty dollars. At least ten dollars being tax. Yeah, that debt would go down in a hurry.

I know people joke around at stories like this, but seriously, the fact that marijuana (in ALL forms, hemp, medicinal and recreational) is illegal is a fucking travesty against freedom and nature. This isn't just about potheads loving to get high (and trust me, we love it) it's about all of the things that marijuana can do that is being purposely ignored and demonized by our government! From wiki:
"Industrial hemp has many uses, including paper, textiles, biodegradable plastics, health food, and fuel. It is one of the fastest growing biomasses known, and one of the earliest domesticated plants known. It also runs parallel with the "Green Future" objectives that are becoming increasingly popular. Hemp requires little to no pesticides, no herbicides, controls erosion of the topsoil, and produces oxygen. Furthermore, hemp can be used to replace many potentially harmful products, such as tree paper (the processing of which uses bleaches and other toxic chemicals, and contributes to deforestation), cosmetics, and plastics, most of which are petroleum-based and do not decompose easily." - 4 years ago

$7billion a year. That's $13billion a year. This doesn't even including the profit the gov' can make out of HEMP.
FOOD, GAS, CLOTHES, PAPER, AND Beauty products.
Imagine the profits on that... - 4 years ago

Didn'T say you can get high off of hemp.
What i stated is that you can make
FOOD, GAS, CLOTHES, PAPER, AND Beauty products.
that's more jobs to stimulate the economy to pay off the
bill....
There's two major portions of the plant. hemp, and
marijuana. you already know about one, check out the
other chief.
HEMP CAN LETERALLY STIMULATE THE WORLD!
THIS WORLD SUFFERS GLOBAL WARMING BECAUSE
TO MUCH FOSSIL FUEL POLUTES OUR AIRS.
HEMP CAN SUBSTITUTE ALL OF THOSE FOSIL FUELS
press fast forward: can u imagine the possibilities with
just one plant????! pretty exciting:) - 4 years ago
