Salma Hayek was so taken aback by the plight of an African woman in Sierra Leone who was unable to breastfeed her child that the star breastfed the newborn herself.

The incident was captured on camera by a television crew from US TV show Nightline.

Salma Hyak is so much woman that there's no doubt
that level also applies. Don't forget that one of her movies was Club 54. As K.C. & the Sunshine Band sang in their disco song: "That's the way uh, huh, uh, huh I like it uh, huh, uh, huh." When you're young & hot you're hot. When you're old and cold you're not. Salma was born in the Summer so...

    • I feel sorry for that child, I'm still having problems at 59 years old with the fact that my mother forced me to suck her breast when I was that age. I was planning a class action law suite with thousands of other children but their to afraid to come forth. Maybe there is a way I can reach out to this child before it's to late!!!

what age? her own child is one year old... this child is also clearly an infant. are you implying you want to sue your mother for breast feeding you at or around the age of 1? this is still quite an appropriate age for breast feeding.

    • It takes special individuals just like her to go through the mediocracy of the social status quo and show others that what the World really needs it is Love and Care. There is nothing wrong with that and this just show how far some people can go to give and to help others. That is indeed a true example of love and giving. Big thumbs up to her!

Salma Hayek is a very warm and sweet person. Her
career as a Mexican actress doesn't prevent her real personality from coming through either in real life or her movies. In one of her movies with Antonio Banderas entitled Desesperado, she plays a guitar and sings. That
might not seem anything special on its face, but when you hear how sweetly and gently she sings, then even if you can't understand Spanish, you have to sense she's not singing a balad, but a lullaby. She's a mom all right.

    • I think this is great. It reminds me of the ending of the Grapes of Wrath. Breast feeding other people's children is also very common in Mexico, which is the beautiful country from where Salma reigns. You're seeing her really be herself here and I have to admit a newfound respect for her.

    • Some actress use their fame and energy to do great things (such as Selma Hayak) while others use their fame in an attempt to destroy people they disagree with politically (Ashley Judd).

    • Fascination with celebs sickens me. Someone who helps another person purely because they want to help is much better than a publicity stunt, or a self-affirmation of their god complex. If she really wanted to help, she could give up being rich and donate most of her money to the needy. That would save more lives. Or she could charge people (not the needy people, but like Americans for example) on a per-sip basis and then donate that money. She could get a lot.

...... right... cause thats exactly wats gonna save the world. lol u cant donate money unless u make money. it wasnt my fascination with the celeb herself that could mean less to me. so chill. shes did something WITH her celebrity and it was sweet. im not saying it wasnt a stunt. but i see shes getting the desired effect. which was to get attention to the issue. u know once we got past her awesome boobage :D. neway its not like she pulled a britney spears and wipped out her vag or something. it was completely innocent and at least for a good cause.

bluepluto, I get what you're saying. I can see it both ways. It could have been very sweet, or very selfish. It depends on her motivation which neither of us knows for sure. My internal reaction was that celebs get way more credit for doing good than regular people do, even though regular people have less means to give.

    • noooo no i dont think its wrong or crossing any lines at all. I can see how now a days its completely awkward for ppl. lol well who am i kidding i prolly wouldn't do it! but wet nurses and women alike have been doing that since the dawn of time. Breast milk no matter WHERE its from is A MILLION times healthier and nutritious than regular formula. I think that was incredibly sweet and very genuine. and common! shes from America too! she knew their could be some potential stir from this. but it seemed to really come from her heart. Especially when she talks about her baby sharing her milk, its so sweet. i just hope i can raise my children to be as compassionate and caring.

John Legusamo used to have a comedy show back in the 90s called "House of Buggins" Both this child on the left and her mother have the most wacked facial expressions. They're both bugging out with their reactions. I bet Tina Fey & Alison on Saturday Night Live from New York could also use this photo and hype some primo humor from it too, especialy with Salma smiling to cue the audience' immagination. Oh, the mischief humans think up.

Would you prefer another pot article or an anti religion op ed. The news is horrible! When a light hearted story or a "titilating" story comes along than its no surprise that it makes it to the front page.

oh fallen, we all know how you just love to scorn all kinds of celebrity hype (although you're always there to read and comment on the articles...)

but think about it, this celebrity may actually have something important to say about the world around us. and she did a good thing, and she did it without regards to how she would be perceived for it.

    • But maybe Selma has inadvertently opened some eyes to world hunger???

There are a lot of issues involved here so I'll just say: that's the way it was before commercial baby formula, the ones that could fed for the ones that couldn't,or wouldn't for whatever reason. There!

    • What does this remind me of?....hmmm..... anyway, good for her, there's a weird stigma around breastfeeding and it's always difficult to know how people are going to take it but at the end of the day,she was helping someone

    • I think this is awesome. This shows a lot of character. Not just any woman is willing to breast feed a child... even their own child.

Besides... I think this makes her look hotter. =P

      Because it:

      1. Demonstrates a selfless act (excluding any notions of creepiness you might perceive)
      2. Is a comment on a serious issue, which is world hunger.
      3. Going back to the "creep" factor, brings about a good discussion on breast feeding in the 21st century.

Why the fuck is it not news?

    • I don't think this is weird at all. I don't know, it might be a cultural thing, the way people are reacting. I think it is great that she helped the mother and the baby in such a selfless way. I really like her.

You hit the nail on the proverbial head. It isn't at all unusual walk down a street in Mexico City, Buenos Aires, or Sao Paulo (...as well as most of Asia, Africa, and parts of Europe for that matter) to see women breastfeeding their children, or the children of others (...and it's even more prevalent in rural areas). The concept of "wet nursing" never fell out of favor in these areas like it has in our more "civilized" and "enlightened" culture.

Props to Selma I say. It's a natural process that's been unfairly perverted by our uber-uptight and conservative society.

    • It might seem weird but it's gone on for ages. That's where the term wet nurse comes from. It's the best nutrition a baby can have and I think it's great that Salma helped out.

agreed. i think what should be considered weird or wrong is being rich and disconnected enough to hire a wet nurse because you simply don't feel like bothering with your own child.

everyone coos over animals in the wild that "adopt" and care for orphan animal babies, saying how advanced and altruistic even ANIMALS can be. well... we humans (even salma hayek!) (now get ready for this one:) are animals too. squeamishness has no place in the real world.

watch the video that was added. it states salma .. who is breast feeding her own baby currently, wanted to help.. and interestingly this african baby was born on the same day as her own.. like a year apart but the same day.. she then goes on to explain why she wanted to help with a story of her great grand mother in mexico who helped a poor women with a baby who could not feed her baby.

      ahhh. Got ya.
Well anyway I admire her for doing this. Shows true character. Not many "celebrities" would do this. Maybe because most feel like they're better or different than the rest of the world. This was Salma, human, woman, mother...not Salma, actress.
      Reality.
