Even before the government announced its latest efforts to fix the troubled banking industry on Tuesday, executives at Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley said they wanted to repay the money quickly. Both banks received $10 billion under the first rescue plan last fall.
Paying back all those funds would be difficult in this tough economic environment. But banking executives worry that the government may intrude further into their businesses as long as they are beholden to Washington.

There's a vast difference in RETURNING money and REPAYING money.
Misleading title. I vote this article down.

I would hope they give it back. Wasn't it supposed to be loaned to them? Wasn't that a big part of it? That America would see a return on this? I hope that all the banks that have received money pay it back.

Yes they should give the money back plus any intrest. For that matter anybody who received the money from GW's stimulus package should return it,furthermore when they try to give us more of our childrens childrens money so we can pacify our own glut lets just send those checks right back to them maybe we could specify where we would like them to be spent. our government is a reflection of its indaviduals. the problem is obvious we overspend on items we can easily do without, live a lifestyle that surpases most any others on the planet. The solution is quite simple spend less then you make, save the rest and invest that money wisely ....gdlk . jrayg

How can they give it back when it has already been spent on bonuses and luxury junkets?

Yes, by all means, give us our money back. That would be ideal.

Well, Obama's plan to hold those who accept public money responsible seems to be having some sort of positive effect.
Just wanted to state that before the neocons proclaim this is a sign of the anti-christ or what ever nonsense they spew.

Let's see, stimulate the economy HUM get George Bush to return all the money he stold then get the rest of his crew to return what they stold then get the oil companies to get what they stold and are still tealing then get Paulson and the Wall Street to return what they stold and they are stealing, and viola the problem is solved. Trillions back in the American economy in a matter of minutes. Now to take a look at and rewrite NAFTA so we have fair trade not free trade at America's expense. Bush senior signed NAFTA into law as one last screwing of America's middle class before he left office, like father like son both with IQ's in the low 90's. Just what America needed boob's running the country. And it shows, the proof is in the pudding.

As far as fair trade vs. free trade, I'd suggest that there should be no difference. What you want is forced markets. You want Americans to have to choose goods that are produced at the standards of American industry, or have to pay the same price for goods of a lower standard from a foreign industry. It costs more to make things at the industrial standards of America because companies have to pay for a lot more things here than elsewhere.
As far as getting all those with their hands in the cookie jar to give back what they've already ate, and/or eating currently, I'd agree. Except, how would they be able to continue their standard of living? Those poor people would have to drive themselves, fly with the rest of us lowly Americans, and maybe even have to be responsible with their own actual wealth rather than spending ours. Why on Earth would you wish that on anyone? *sarcasm*
