Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Celebration Begins

Image

Abraham Lincoln was born 200 years ago on this date in a log cabin in Kentucky. Thus begins the bicentennial celebration of the 16th president. President Obama travels to Springfield, Ill., for the commemoration and a banquet speech. In New York, a handwritten draft of Lincoln’s 1864 election victory speech is expected to fetch $3 million to $4 million at auction.

    • My great great great great grandfather was born while Linclon was staying with my family in Illinois in 1833. They were so taken in with the scrawny circuit lawyer that they named their son after him. That son fought in the civil war and his son married the grand daughter of a freed slave in a spirit and a nation impossible without Lincoln. What a country we live in where even those that seme the least of us can find the greatness in us.

    • I cannot believe no one is intervening to stop the auctioning off by Christies of an original hand-written copy of a speech given by President Abraham Lincoln in 1864.
This is a piece of American History and belongs in a Museum where everyone can enjoy it and NOT in some private collection somewhere!
