Authorities issued a recall for all peanut products shipped from a plant in Plainview, Texas.
The order, which applies to products shipped since the plant opened nearly four years ago, came a day after the discovery of filth in a crawl space above a production area during a health services inspection, the department said in a news release.
Inspectors also reported that the plant's ventilation system was pulling debris "from the infested crawl space into production areas of the plant resulting in the adulteration of exposed food products," the release said.http://i.current.com/images/spacer.gif

Officials at the plant, which opened in March 2005, voluntarily stopped operations Monday night.

No biggie, there's a little bit of rat feces in all out food- from ground beef to corn flakes.
You pretty much have to grow your own food for it to be clean.

Well, Skippy (Unilever) says they don't "source Skippy peanut butter or other products (or any ingredients contained therein) from Peanut Corporation of America (PCA), nor do our contract manufacturers."
Jif says: "Our Jif peanut butter brand and peanut butter products are safe for consumption."
Smucker says:"The J. M. Smucker Company does not purchase peanuts or any ingredients from Peanut Corporation of America."
Knowing how eminently honest reliable these mega food- factory corporations are, and always have been, I guess I'll just have to take their word for product safety. (Actually, probably not.)
(Hmmm, that was extra special crunchy...)
But still, I find peanut butter useful and the larger corporations are actually more likely to have take this kind of threat to their bottom line seriously.
If this leads to a temporary clean-up in factory food standards it would be a good outcome.
Still, I like the idea of knowing and growing my own food source. It's a heck of a lot of work, but what isn't?

And the guy that owns this company refuses to answer any questions. He's pleading the 5th so he doesn't incriminate himself. How sad?
My little sister lives off peanut butter. To make it worse, she lives in Kentucky where all that peanut butter was sent in relief kits after the storm. I'm so glad she didn't get sick.
Someone needs to take responsibility for this. I don't know about you people, but I want answers.

I'm hoping this doesn't affect my teddy natural's PB. I don't think I'd give it up, rat feces or otherwise.

Hm, this is a peanut PLANT. So anything that uses peanuts would be potentially hazardous, which is uh, mostly everything. So everyone don't eat. Also, don't go outside your house because everyone is probably zombified from the mutant rat strain of bubonic plague. We should probably just kill ourselves now so we don't become zombie food....you first.
