As many as 5,000 juveniles are believed to have appeared before Judge Ciavarella while the kickback scheme was going on.
“Money is important, but my son’s life has already been completely destroyed,” said Ruby Cherise Uca, whose son, Chad, 18, was sentenced to three months of detention by Judge Ciavarella in 2005, when Chad was in eighth grade.
Chad, who had no prior offenses, was charged with simple assault after shoving a boy at school and causing him to cut his head on a locker. Chad returned to school his freshman year, but he was so far behind in classes and so stigmatized by his teachers and peers, his mother said, that he soon dropped out.
________________________________
This case raises questions about how juveniles should be treated in the courts. Should it be mandatory for all juveniles to have council or should child protection services be required to be present? If these kids can't count on the system to look out for them who can they count on?

Corruption in the government. NO. Never would have thought.
Speaking from personal experience the laws are made for people to break consistently for more people to get arrested and pay more fines. Yet nothing changes. They do not fix the root of the problem. Even if the answer is within hands reach. - 3 years ago

This is some sick shit, but this is the world we live in. The amount of money you make almost always directly shows how corruptible you are. 'Law' in this world is an absolute corrupt to the core joke on all of us.
Profit is the name of the game, and people are ALWAYS going to fuck each other over for the all mighty dollar.
People are waking up to the way things are, and not the way we would like them to be.

Interesting that the story only mentions the judges pleading guilty. Obviously, if they were bribed, somebody bribed them. And just as obviously, if the judges took 2.6 million in bribes, then it was worth a lot more to the bribers. When will THEY be charged?

Ironically enough, my home state of New Jersey has one of the least corrupt judicial systems in the country. We don't elect our Judges here, unlike every other state in the nation.

Abuse of judicial power in potentially 5,000 cases and they got a deal for seven years? Um, what!?

This is such a terrible shame come on, how is this legal. For that matter you can bet your ass that this is going on in other courts as well, adult and juvenile.

This is why it is a bad idea to privatize certain industries. Corporations exist to make money, and they will do anything they think they can get away with to do it.

Is there a place for the hopeless sinner
Who has hurt all mankind just to save his own?

This is very sad. These judges didn't have good judgement sktills when it comes to right and wrong. Of course the youth should have counsel present as well as CPS. CPS is a joke though. I worked with them at a facility in west Texas near Lubbock. CPS would often send these kids back to the abussive parents or guardians, or shuffle them in and out of abussive foster homes. The just shuffled them around all the time to get them out of their hair tempararily. That whole system needs an overhaul.

wtf?! this is horrible.. they should be trying to build a better future through the kids, not contributing to their failure. how is this world supposed to solve it's problems when the greedy system is stopping the kids from getting a good education??
