Cannabis: Are we seeing a more divided media

Image

Newspapers continue in their outdated sensationalist reporting on cannabis, sprouting the usual, ‘what about the children’ and ‘mental illness’ tag-lines and wheeling out government ‘message’ after ‘message’ in a vain hope of selling more newspapers. Hacks are falling over themselves to present their yellow propaganda to please their despotic editors.

They pontificate and fluster in righteous indignation, often presenting a simple cannabis grower as a hardened criminal or as a foreigner! Their jingoism overflowing in such news reporting as ‘Vietnamise or Chinese Gang Running Cannabis Factory’, like a foreigner’s ethnicity and homeland do not matter to the white british readership, just their foreign-ness and the fact they are running a DRUG factory.

There is no doubt that the government have put pressure on media to present cannabis in a negative way while not reporting on the beneficial side, but not all forms of media are towing the party line. Recently we had the Horizon program on cannabis, which although did not blow the trumpet for legalisation, at least gave out some truth and a more adult and realistic message than the Home Secretary is capable of.

    • Pushing is what we need to continue to do. And we're doing it right here.

This is an issue who's gravity defies description - so many area's and not a little one among them. The cannabis prohibition is wrong. The rhetoric that defends it, is wrong. Our govt's opposition and the extreme harm being done to American citizens because of it, is wrong. The majority of those that have no personal experience are neutral.

To object now is to open yourself to rebuttal backed by facts, not scare tactics. Have you noticed that every one of these "Anti-groups" attempt to lend legitimacy to their claims by quoting govt. propaganda? It does this and it does that pales in view of the millions of users who don't experience their claims. And the claims always say, "can" or "might". Not facts. The "facts" are contrary.

But the legalization movement isn't focused. Words, talk, but no movement - no strikes, no protests, just words. Words are important, they can shape opinion. But words alone aren't enough.

We need to organize this folks. We need to form local groups. This will be a grass roots movement, so forget about attacking the Fed. It's the states we need to be concerned with. YOUR state. YOUR freedom. YOUR choice.

We don't work for the government. They work for us. Remember that.

    • The governments campaign against weed isn't even founded in science but rather fear! It's time for the truth to get out there and lately a lot of the press has toned down it's crap on weed! Lets keep pushing one city or state at a time and sooner or later it will be legal!

    • As more "new media" emerges, with more liberal political opinions regarding cannabis, so the mainstream press are left with a simple choice.

Continue to toe the government line on cannabis, and be made to look more & more silly as time passes, or get with the program and give an honest view-point.

      Its more "evolution" than "revolution".

    • Pot is the savior of the world. What is life without pot? Our gov should embrace pot for all it is worth instead of giving it to the drug lords to rule the world. We are being set up here peoples. Smoke the herb and it will set you free. Peace

    • More than that I have even heard from judges to talking heads say it's not legal yet. And that is a major mind set when they say yet. It's on the horizon and just a matter of time. Keep pressing all of you and I will do the same.

    • It is amazing!! I've watched several reports about medicinal marijuana and this whole Phelps debacle and I've actually been surprised to see the news people giving a very weak bias against cannabis, and some of them I think are actually realizing for themselves that this plant isn't what the gov has said it is.... time to start asking more questions!!!
