Oregon bill would outlaw Pit Bulls, euthanize them

Ihatethemall
A new bill would ban Pit Bulls in oregon.

The state would punish those by euthanizing the dog and slapping a fine of up to $6,250 and up to a year in jail.

Those who already own one would be grandfathered in. They would need to provide a certificate proving the dog has been sterilized and obtain a permit for the dog.

    • Anyone who thinks this is a good idea should have to give up their children. Because they are obviously going to raise an ignorant little coward that kills anything remotely "scary", like the neighborhood cats, or some kids at school because they got called a name. Can we have tweekers put down? They are FAR more dangerous than any dog that ever lived. I have 2 older dachshunds and have had more than one larger dog, including pitbulls, come out after us. I have yet to meet a dog that didn't respond to being lifted off the ground an flipped ass over tit or smacked on the snout. Maybe growing up as a skinny kid with parents who taught me not to be a pussy helped, but cripes, dogs are not that big or scary. You have opposable thumbs and stand on 2 legs!

    • Later that day, after it happened I went to the homeowners and rang their doorbell. They peaked out behind a curtain but would not answer the door. I told a police officer about this and he basically shrugged and did nothing.

    • Three years ago my beagle was attacked by two pitbulls. They were in a loosely fenced yard and when they saw us walking down the street, they slipped out beneath a saggy part of the fence and ran up to us. One started trying to put its mouth on my dogs neck. I picked up my dog and started yelling at the dogs. They were jumping up at me, trying to get to my dog. Two men in a truck stopped and helped me scare the pitbulls away and I ran home carrying my dog. She has Never been the same and is afraid and aggressive towards other dogs now. She was never like this before. I am afraid to walk her because that was such a bad experience. We drive out of town for long walks now. I love dogs but would be glad if this bill passed.

    • its a breed of dog bred for violence. that makes them inherently more dangerous than say...welsh corgi's.

on the other hand, how many actual attacks are there per year AND how many attacks are there on children per year from parents. I only know of a few truly vicious attacks, but these have been publicized much more than say, the amounts of child abuse in the same city.

I'd prefer the government more closely monitor the adults in our society rather than punish dogs by euthanasia

    • If you read the link the bill hasn't been introduced yet. I doubt it will get far the way it is. Oregonians will not stand for the indiscriminate destruction of any dog.

I think breed specific laws are a mistake. Simply determining what constitutes a pit bull can become problematic.

Owner responsibility needs to be emphasized. Owners are responsible for the welfare and actions of their animals. Some people do not socialize or train their dogs. This lack of education and socialization is the cause for much of the damage done by aggressive dogs.

Please tell me how the banishment of a particular breed has anything to do with the basic principles of Communism. Do you even know what Communism is? Or do you just throw that word around like Americans do with "Terrorist" to automatically win debates?

Left or right, anyone who supports this bill should be told their kids are being taken away to be murdered. Let them know how it feels before they go putting their cowardly laws in place.

    • wow, that's fucking stupid. how can you ban a breed of dog when it's not their fault? those are the same people that keep racism and other -isms alive. those people are so dumb, it's insane.

    • Banning "American Staffordshire Bull Terriors" is the most wastful, ignorant, predjudiced, USELESS waste of taxpayers money, & voiolation of civil rights a legislator can get involved in!(aside from fighting the legalization of Cannibis, that is) Pit Bulls(to use the common name) are some of the most loving & loyal dogs around, It's the BREEDERS & HANDLERS concentrating on pushing aggressivness (called ABUSE by knowing folks) that need to be taken out & SHOT!...Start with Micheal Vick, as a public example...I've known hundreds of gentle, loving Pit Bulls, who were raised in a nurturing atmosphere where aggresiveness & fighting were discouraged from puppyhood on, & got along FINE with other pets in the household, or that came to visit.
BAN LEGISLATIVE IGNORANCE!, Not The BREEDS!!!
BAN ABUSERS!...as a matter of fact, neutering THEM wouldn't bother Me much...

    • Giving up my dogs to the state to be killed is like turning in a friend. I wouldn't do it and I would defend my dogs to the death. FUCK THIS BILL. And if this becomes law in Oregon....Fuck them too
