You definitely have the right points. A couple hundred years ago, violent revolution was the norm and that is what it took.
We live in a different world today. It has become smaller, people have become somewhat more civilized, and change can be a hard pill to swallow.
There will be changes coming down the pike many will not like. Some of these changes may erode even further "the will of the people".
But change they will, never the less.
Intellect and hard work, yes, these are what is needed now. Not violence, but peaceful protests and the willingness to work within the system.

    • Hydrokat, BTW National Fascism is not the political system in Europe, but Democratic Socialism is the system.

National Fascism is what Hitler's Germany, Musslini's Italy, Franco's Spain, had. And some countries in Latin America hava a form of Fascism.

And I would agree that National Socialism is perhaps once again the greatest threat to the world as a whole, since both China AND Russia appear to have largely fallen into the trap of exhorting the masses to "love their country" so strongly that a majority of their populations are willing to overlook the weaknesses and failures of their governments because such things would be inconsistent with their visions of a "perfect nation." Some of the demonstrations in China in response to public perceptions of insults to their country that would be considered quite mild by American standards have been absolutely FRENZIED. God forbid any of the folks in those groups were suddenly given the opportunity to push the BIG RED NUCLEAR BUTTON. In that state of mind, anything is possible and damn the consequences.

    • Um, actually achieving a better society through intellect and hard work HAS been proven to work for thousands of years.  Think about what you are saying if you truly reject this philosophy.  You are saying that the opposites of these attributes are the winning formula:  stupidity and laziness.  No one who has thought about society's ills for more than 5 minutes really thinks that the latter path is the one that leads to success. There is no such thing as a perfect society.  Humans are imperfect and societies are merely a reflection of humanity.  Every attempt at "utopia" has failed precisely because those efforts failed to adequately take those imperfections into account. The American Experiment has thus far proven to be the most successful in the history of the world in creating a functioning society while maximizing individual freedoms.  But it is far from perfect and in some important ways appears to be going in the wrong direction, at least in my opinion.  Just one example, for me, is the sorry state of the American political system and election policy.  Most people agree that Abraham Lincoln was our greatest President.  Yet I am at a loss as to how someone of his background could possibly be elected today.  The fact that at a minimum he would almost certainly need major plastic surgery to make that mug "camera ready" is really sad.  But when you consider that each of the two major candidates raised something on the order of $100 million and needed every dime to compete, something has gone horribly, horribly wrong there.  And that doesn't even BEGIN to address the obvious fraud occurring in some jurisdictions or the bizarre fact that the people in the most populous state in the country know the results from most of the rest of the country before they even go to the polls.  That just doesn't strike me as proper. To the gentleman who called me a "spineless wimpass Libtard" and a "self hating American reject" thank you for the chuckle. Normally when I see your icon I skip over the ensuing text because I know there is never any substance in your posts but simply variations on verbal chest-thumping. I was actually born on the 4th of July and have therefore had a sort of special reverence for the American Revolution and all that it meant and continues to mean since I was a small child (coincidentally when I was first introduced to Judo and Tae Kwon Do, which also became a large part of my life). Of course, as I grew older, I realized that the date of my birth was only coincidentally the same calendar day as the birth of our country's independence. But I have nonetheless remained committed to staying abreast of the issues I think are of the greatest importance to the continuation of the Founding Fathers' vision. There is not the tiniest doubt in my mind that through my work I do more to support this country each week than you have done in your entire lifetime. But a true patriot works for positive change within the institutions that were established by the Founders for doing so -- even if the changes needed are dramatic. Only a coward, a charlatan, and a simpleton who lacks the intellect to support his positions in public relies on violence and revolution in a free society.

    • Yada yada yada...talk is cheap.

"Look at what I can do. I can hide my face and post a video pointing out the obvious to the choir."

Rome is burning and we don't need to be told about the dangers of 2nd hand smoke at this point.

The only thing "changing" is the pains are growing more profound and severe. People are growing more and more aware of what has been taken. Still, nothing you can SAY is going to undo the blunt trauma we've sustained to the forehead of our liberties. The time to talk/educate is long passed.

Thank you for your service to our country, Mystery Marine, but you're country hasn't been "yours/ours" for a while now. Too bad you are just getting on the scene. You may have made a contribution to the cause a few years back.

    • Mussolini stated that Fascism was the perfect blending of Corporations and government. Implying the people are resources and commodities.

The Democratic wing of the Democratic-Republican party seems to believe in controlling people cradle to grave rather than personal responsibility the government should take care of you. To this end the government should take all the fruits of your labor and the profits of corporations and distribute it to everyone according to its formula.

The Republican wing of the Democratic-Republican party seems to favor Corporations fostering consumerism and using military to protect the interests of them to the determent of the people.

The framers of the Constitution -- especially Thomas Jefferson -- seemed to believe that the People are Sovereign that the National government was to be limited in power and scope to only the items enumerated in the constitution for the most part concerning dealings between the USA and other STATES (what most people now call countries). This is also apparent in that STATES are members of the USA rather than provinces. The power vested in the people who delegate some of it to their STATE the same way as the people granted powers to the national government.

The first assault on this was during the war between the states. The next worst time was during the "NEW DEAL" era. The more the National government is allowed to control things the worse it gets.

Don't you realize that Bush and the Republican dominated Congress and Senate blended Corporations and government even more????

Subsidies to BIG OIL? NO BID contracts to Halliburton, K.B. and R, and Blackwater? Allowing the thieves who robbed us to walk away with out taxpayer money and get gigantic bonuses, because Paulson, just did not put restrictions in the bailout?

Bush has done this more than anyone in the past. Privatization is a way to just rob taxpayers and give more than the cost to corporations. We should end this mess.

Thank you. My brain cells were beginning to feel so ALONE in this group...You gotta love the guy who posted after you and who actually thought he was making some kind of "surgical strike" by seizing your admonition that hard work and intellect are necessary to accomplish positive change in society and arguing, bizarrely, that this combination has not worked for thousands of years. For my own part, I am hard-pressed to think of positive societal change that has NOT been the result of those two things. Mahatma/Mohandas Gandhi comes immediately to mind but even our own Founding Fathers were determined to win positive change using those two elements and relied upon the violence of the American Revolution only when it became painfully clear that no other path was open to them.

The Wolves are circling for the kill! Get up off Your couches and stop watching friggen American Idol and worry about Your American Freedoms!! Too many have paid the ultimate price for Your silence. The Bill is coming due, and there is no check in the mail. What will it take to get You up off Your Asses? There is nowhere to run, nowhere to hide. Hey Miles, where do you think that right to 'shoot your mouth off' came from? Do you think the American Revolutionaries asked nicely for it? No, as I recall, they were British citizens who opened fire in British colonies on British troops. By killing British troops on British soil, they took that soil and made the USA out of it. And then in 1812, they opened fire in the USA to defend it.

What's ironic about you is that before the revolution, I'm sure there was some Tory (British loyalist) who was sitting in a tavern somewhere and overheard some angry pre-Americans talking about revolution. And I bet he thought them a "small and ill-informed fringe group" who'd "find out what happens to people who open fire" in the Colonies.

Yeah, they make a nation and have freedom till their great grandkids screw it up.

I respect his commitment to virtue and believe that what he is warning of is inevitable. I don't think there are as many who feel as he does within the U.S military as there are those who simply don't know or give a damn. Even so, it's good to hear these things said. Great respect for this one.

    • Great post, but it is scary too.

It strengthens the rumor of the closed meeting in Congress last March about a coming revolt or civil war and Gerald Celente's warning of the same.

On another note, both Fascism and Socialism are forms of collectivism with the State in ultimate control of means of production and control of the population. Democracy is not much better, because it is rule by the mob. Only a Republic under the rule of law can protect the people, but only if the people insist on allegiance to the law instead of using the government to force their way onto others. This is why we are such a divided nation. We fear the other group because we have become a democracy and know that the other can take away our freedom. Therefore the only possible thing to do is gain control and force our way on to other in order to protect ourselves.

Under a Republic, we need not fear the other group.

But this Government and the two parties have encouraged us to fear each other, and demonize each other so we do not see the true enemy. We look to the government to solve our problems, protect us, but it is the real danger, the real enemy. If it can take care of us and protect us it can rule us and we become its slaves.

Slaves are always taken care of. Just enough to keep them working. We are either free and responsible or obedient wards of the State.

Respecting the rights of each individual protects the the rights of all, but any form of collectivism ultimately destroys the rights of each person.

    • That gentleman just sized up what should be in the hearts of all Americans. This country was based on freedom. The people who set up our government realized that with the freedoms that we have, it would be possible to concentrate power and abuse the rights of citizens for political gain. We are experiencing that right now. The second amendment was put in the constitution to allow the citizens to revolt against a government that tries to take away our freedoms. Jefferson realized that some day the government would act like it is today. Our fore fathers would be fighting back right now, but we're like the frog. If you stick a frog in hot water, he'll jump out. If you stick him in cool water and heat it up slowly, he'll stay in the pot till he's boiled. We're at 211 degrees fahrenheit as a nation, and there are still people out there saying that they still trust government.

    • McCainiac:

Bingo, dude, bingo. Jefferson would have thrown up the revolution flag a looong damn time ago; if not in the nineteen-thirties when FDR was turning the government into fiefs for the oligarchies, then most definitely soon after that.

I've been thinking of the frog analogy myself lately. I think most Americans have been conditioned to assume the idea of freedom they're taught in grade school is some static thing that no one but 'Commies' can ever threaten. What news they actually watch tells them nothing of the gradual whittling away of their freedoms, through both unjust laws and ever increasing taxation. And since they don't hear about it from the local news channel they trust, it didn't happen. So they keep that grade school faith in the system, and assign anything that conflicts with it to the 'conspiracy nut' bin.

When someone does tell them the truth, that person has such a naive view of the world that they can't believe there would be people with the ambition, power, wealth, and worst of all, desire, to turn them into free-range slaves.
They've been fed Hollywood tales for generations of how every would-be super villain who tries to take over the world gets thwarted by a hero - who is usually an agent from some shadowy governmental agency. So it is hard for the ordinary people, who have bought into freedom without paying for it, to understand how people with just a shitload of money could plot to do it by getting their own people elected to high offices and then legislating as they desire, such as creating shadowy government agencies that snatch people out of their beds in the middle of the night and disappear them.
Students of history know, though, that this isn't a remarkable thing. It's actually very, very common. And when governments that are corrupt become infamously so, they do two things: first, they start offering scapegoats, exposing opposing faction members, to appease the public. Second, when they run out of the first, they clamp down on the public.

Then all the naive people wake up. And are very, very angry at the rude awakening.

They're offering up the scapegoats now. They're also getting ready for the clampdown.

The effort to apply Darwin's basic principles to other phenomena besides biology began in the 19th century, with Herbert Spenser (sic on sp). The "robber barons" of U.S. industry absolutely loved the idea of "social Darwinism." They argued that any form of business regulation whatsoever would be meddling with natural selection and survival of the fittest.

Obviously their long-discredited principles stubbornly persist. The clarion call is that free-marked capitalism must be allowed to operate without any regulation. None. Nada. Zero. That will bring prosperity to us all. You know. Prosperity like that we're enjoying right now.

But wait! There's more! Millions of the far-right faithful who *embrace* social Darwinism simultaneously *deny* biological Darwinism. That's ironic, of course. But it's even more ironic that what these people are advocating gives heartless plutocrats like Bernie Madoff license to screw them.

    • Clearly you believe that America is fascist and would be better socialist... I disagree on both, and it is evident to me that neither of us will be swayed from our view..

akamaial, I am from Canada, and I would NEVER live in the U.S. solely because of your lack of a Universal Health Care System. I feel you don't fully understand what socialist democracy is.

I would probably never vote for Canada's socialist party (NDP) with the platform it has now, because I feel that it fails to understand certain things about the economy. Yet at the same time if any of the other parties ever tried to get rid of universal health care, social security, EI, or welfare there would be an uprising, and I would be a part of it. A government that takes care of it's citizens is not the same as one that controls and monitors the daily minutia of their lives.

quixotic12 and bahai144, Bullshit... if you would to ever get caught up in the child welfare beaucratic machine as my niece had the misfortune of regarding her son, you would not be saying such nonsense as "A government that takes care of it's citizens is not the same as one that controls and monitors the daily minutia of their lives."

They flat out did take control of her and her sons life, and because I was and am close to her (surrogate father), I know for a fact how beaucratic wonks interject themselves into ones life. It is the very essence of their existential being.

Go blow smoke in someone else's face bubba, I see quite clearly the "beneficial attributes" of government "care".

You think Fascism is minute in comparison to Socialism?
Ok....Compare modern day France and Germany with HITLER's Germany.
I think you are really thinking about totalitarian communism instead of democratic socialism which BTW is in existence in Canada and they are doing better than we are economically.

Fascism is the combination of government and business and is totalitarian in nature. Hitler's Germany, Franco's Spain and Mussolini's Italy. Some business leaders have said that what present day China has is Fasicism and not real Communism. Don't know about that one but Socialism is better for the individual than Fasism.

FREEDOM is at the core. Not Capatalism or Socialism. Democrat Republican. And We are not Europe! Europe is in the grip of Nationalistic Fascism. The free thinking People of the World will some day be called again to task to give their lives to pull them out of the mess they have allowed themselves to be buried in. Canada is an over taxed Bureaucracy and the same powers that seek to overthrow Europe will be heading their way too. Only America stands as a Beacon to the World. Like it or not, the World looks to us, Why? Because We are not afraid to stand up and sacrifice, to put our money where our mouths are at. To pick up arms and kick ASS! And that, and that alone is what keeps the wolves at bay. Not Cowardly rhetoric and spineless whimpass Politicians and Educators who seek their own advancement over the People they represent. In World War II All Americans, No Color, No Sexual Orientation, or Race was left out of the Frey. Why? Because Free thinking People of all America were willing to defend their Right to believe what they wanted. Without intrusion by Government. That is a precious commodity, which is taken for granted here in the United States. We've become a Nation of Lardass, Media Worshipping self interest Groups. The Silent Majority will be Silent no more!!

France, England, Germany, and the Netherlands are a hair's breath from being Islamo Fascism. And if the U.S. isn't careful, we'll be right behind them.
I'm telling you Islam is the new communism.

      Oh and i vote Patriot.

Calgar, You need to worry about Your own failed system. You are not an American and Your attitude and response are not relevant here. Stick to what You know about Your Country. We Americans will worry about ours. Have a nice sleep.

    • Interesting.

I see people as humans and therefore fear what nationalist rhetoric and stereotypes can do on all sides.

      Hmmm...

This does illustrate my point that underneath the military programming there are still people, and that appealing to their righteous, human side is what matters most to them. Underneath the nationalist and religious programming there are still people too...whether or not you can get through to them is what makes the difference I suppose.

To be honest, I look towards ideals not to the present or past for anything except understanding the reasons for historical tipping points.

I was actually thinking about the soldiers last night.

Can you imagine going off to war and then coming back to find out your country in the condition it's in?

Because of lies, greed, and foolish adjustable mortgage rates?

      WTF? Bailout the rich? WTF?

I would prefer using the technology of the internet to unite the righteous people of the world, but if it ever does come down to military intervention, it's nice to know that some soldiers are still more principled humans than killing machines.

    • He's right... America was founded as a Republic, not a Democracy. Problem is that our own Republicans have fucked us over worse than the Dems, with their warped ideals of Capitalism and the huge amount of money and power they've received from pulling the strings. I'm thinking about Nixon, Ford, Regan and both JR and SR Bush.

Remember, Bush was in power for the last 8 years and his father 2nd before him... I'm hoping that Obama will undo alot of the messed up stuff Bush and Co did, like the patriot act.

I am awake and aware, but the situation we are facing is so complex it's really hard to grasp. If we look back in history, to our roots, you will see a much different America. We are no longer a true Republic.

Then again, we did fuck alot of stuff up even back then, but we overcame and learned from our mistakes. It's a continually evolving nation and the future is uncertain at this time. Let's all pray Obama is sincere and will do the right thing. We're counting on him.

Obama reminds me a little bit of JFK, both are open and rational people who have acknowledged much of what's wrong with America, like JFK did; and they assassinated him for threatening the empire. Obama is now (appearing to) be doing the same, but there's so much going on that begs the question of what he plans to replace much of the old and corrupted system with and if it will work.
