Disgraced Wall Street financier Bernard Madoff will apparently waive his right to a trial in a deal worked out with prosecutors, according to a paper filed in court Friday which could pave the way for a guilty plea.

The former Nasdaq stock exchange chairman is accused of masterminding a 50-billion-dollar fraud that promised huge returns to investors in exchange for their capital -- one of the biggest financial scams in history.

Since Madoff was placed under house arrest in December rumors have swirled that he has been negotiating a deal with prosecutors, which could see him plead guilty and assist investigations in return for a reduced sentence.
