"That is what we can do and must do today," Obama said in his weekly radio and video address, taped on Friday at the White House. "And I am absolutely confident that is what we will do."
On Saturday morning, the president and first lady Michelle Obama flew by helicopter to the presidential retreat in Camp David, Md., for the weekend. Their daughters, Sasha and Malia, traveled to Camp David separately, the White House said.
The work week ended on more down news, with the report of 651,000 more American jobs slashed and an unemployment rate climbing to 8.1 percent. That is the highest rate of people out of work in more than 25 years, as the recession continued to put enormous pressures on families and industries.
+++++++++++++++++++++
Do you agree that things are going to get better? Are we going to be able to turn this crisis around and seize the opportunities this crisis is creating to cause great changes to occur?
With all the terrible news surrounding us on a daily basis, isn't a breath of fresh air to hear that things are going to get better?

Even though the circumstances are similar, this is not the age of FDR. It was a whole different America back then. People were not able to communicate with one another on nearly the same scale, so the transition from out of the abyss should be much smoother and more understandable in this computer age. What we don't need is a bunch of disallusioned skeptics who don't know what they're talking about spouting off about how Obama is clueless, because he's not. He has the best and the brightest individuals working on the solution to our very serious problems right now...
Must you skeptics go on being such sore losers because you still can't stand the fact that he won the election fair and square. He's our president now and trying to do what's best for the majority of this nation. If you're one of the elite, then I can understand that you'd be sore about having to give up some of your wealth... but if you're just a wannabe rich person, then then what's your beef..? Are you just diehard republicans that can't stand democrats..? If so, that's not really being a good republican... that's just being an a**hole...

Oh give me a break, Obama is clueless and is spending us deeper and deeper into depression. His raising taxes on those who make over 250k will be passed on to the consumer and result in lower wages for employees. The people whom have confidence in this clown are obviously the ones who voted for the "Spread the Wealth" policy.

Thank goodness you are here, then, to tell us what should really be done. I know it's a lot to ask of you to share ALL the answers with us, but maybe you could give us a few?

Better for who?
War is the only thing I see in the Future.
We are repeating history as we speak..
But I guess most of the sheeple will see that as a good thing as long as they are told with a smile and a positive attitude.
Keep that positive attitude as you stand in a soup line at the FEMA camp.

I find the term "sheeple" as immature and unenlightened. I am sure you are not a snob who thinks you are better than most other people. When you call the majority of the people "sheeple"' you present yourself to me as an arrogant ass. I know you are not the only person on Current that uses that term to describe the majority of Americans. I hope that you are a much cooler and better person than the way you just presented yourself here on this post. I would really like it if everyone here on Current stopped using the word "sheeple" because it is disrespectful. It also makes the people on here that use the term to describe the majority of our fellow Americans as is they are trying to compensate for their own low self-esteem.

FDR also said that too during the depression. Obama's stimulus package is considered another "New Deal". If yall don't know America's history, FDR just made the rich richer, killed off smaller businesses, and did hardly anything for the working people of the nation; all with the same promises.
Time to sit back and watch history repeat itself.

Things will get better. We have a visionary in the White House and a Congress that can actually pass legislation for him.
Barack never beats around the bush though. He constantly asserts that it will be tough and that it will take time. Not a popular thing to say, but true. And his balance of short term and long term goals is exactly what we need. I'm glad we finally elected someone who can see past his own presidential term.
Now if we can just get the republicans to stop disagreeing with everything the democrats try to do, we'll be in business. I can't blame them though; they're scared that people like Obama will make their whole party irrelevant, and they should be scared.

There is so much doom and gloom coming from every corner but hearing an upbeat president, speaking positively about what the American people can do, is heartening.
