KABUL, Afghanistan (CNN) -- A suicide attack on police killed at least nine people in southern Afghanistan on Monday morning, authorities said.

A combination of police officers and civilians died in the attack, which took place in central Lashkar Gah in Helmand province.

The Monday attack followed a deadly blast on Sunday that claimed four soldiers with the NATO-led force. The troops were killed by an improvised explosive device Sunday, according to a military statement.

Two members of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) died at the scene of the blast in eastern Afghanistan, and two died later of their wounds, the ISAF said in a statement.

"These dedicated professionals have risked their lives for a safe and stable Afghanistan," said Brig. Gen. Richard Blanchette, ISAF spokesman, in the statement.

The nationalities of those killed was not released by ISAF.
