Top up fees are a joke and I don't think that they represent good value for students. The government needs skilled workers in the jobs market but insists on pricing normal people out of a degree education.

With degrees costing more and more but becoming increasingly commonplace, is the now seemingly automatic decision to go to Uni necessarily the best career move?

I know plenty of people that won't go to university because of it being expensive.
To be honest, i couldnt care less, its only money. But people get worked up about it already. Theres gunna be plenty less kids going to uni if the price goes up. - 3 years ago

agreed, this government has been the worst ever for representing the populations' wants and needs, by telling people what they want and need instead

Before they push this into action, they should take a look at the US higher education system and see how deep student debt runs. People are graduating college with tens of thousands of dollars in debt. This number didn't sound good when the economy was booming, but people still went to college thinking they'd land a great job and be able to be debt free fairly quickly. Alas, with the state of the world's finances now, taking out loans to pay the ever increasing tuition costs sounds completely insane.

What is the point of higher fees when there are NO JOBS TO FOR STUDENTS TO DO WHEN THEY LEAVE??!!!!!!
My point being - it won't get paid back.

A survey of students looking into the likely impact of a hike in tuition fees seems to suggest the government would get away with putting them up to £5,000, but that £7,000 would be a step too far for most undergraduates.

Uni applications are already dropping because lots of students can't afford to get into that much debt. Wouldn't this proposed price hike make uni even more inaccessible to a lot of people?
