Brazilian legend Pele has made comments that are sure to generate massive controversy, after he indicated that Brazilian footballers Ronaldo and Robinho took drugs at a private event in Sao Paulo with businessmen in the tourist sector.

Are drugs (recreational and performance enhancing) widespread in all forms of sport?

    • Every couple of years Pele comes out to vocally criticise a modern player for doing something which he perceives to be doing a wrong to the game.

The fact that its normally the most famous player in the world at the time makes me think that just a little bit of jealousy involved. He cant stand these upstarts getting all the press and glory and he wants to steal a little bit back for himself.

Even if he was the greatest player ever, I don't think its his place to be sticking his oar in. Leave it to the Platini's and the Blatter's, they have enough dodgy ideas and unfounded criticism for everyone ...

    • I think he's telling the truth! Why would the greatest ever player have anything bad to say about a footballer unless it were true. I reckon he loves football so much he wants it to be clean of all drugs recreational or otherwise and who can blame him. Don't call him bitter - have more respect for the genius with one ball (cough).

    • Does he mean on those drugs that he's been advertising?

I'm not sure which I'd hate more, being accused of taking illegal drugs or the ones that help you rise to the occasion...

    • Pele.... Don't be a Hater!! Sounds to me like he is feeling a bit bitter. On the other hand he has given examples of exemplary players.

Maybe he is right. Kaka is amazing after all. I love him

    • Robinho spokesman isn't happy: “We strenuously refute any such suggestions. The notion of him taking drugs is absurd and we completely deny it. We are trying at this moment to get Pele to clarify the situation. We think these comments have been genuinely misunderstood or got lost in translation.”
