Moyles is "offensive w**ker"

Image

A whopping eight people have complained about Radio One DJ Chris Moyles' high-pitched impersonation of gay singer Will Young. Not the first time he's breached Ofcom regulations apparently...

Comedy Dave's good though ain't he?

    • Maybe you could celebrate your own amazing talent more ? clearly there's a gap in the market! you bunch of little stars yo'all.. go on!!! Jump in!!

Mmmm!!!! I feel a great big 'heart' Bret from IM campaign coming on .... now THAT is an example of a natural talent - & if you don't use him ... ya gonna loose him!

    • Don't get me wrong... this isn't about loosing Chris Moyles as a presenter and i agree with both of the comments above... This is about peoples willingness to pipe up and complain at something that is clearly a joke. It doesn't matter who the host is... so 8 people complained.... i bet those very 8 people cracked up laughing at other things on the show, when the joke was on someone else.

    • The media is already full of mediocre presenters, forget about the future! I mean come on, Chris Moyles IS mediocre. I'm not saying it couldn't get any worse, but we can't live in fear that if he gets too slagged off, we're going to lose a comedy genius, we're just gonna lose a semi-offensive tit with two books under his belt...

    • ... or genuine , witty , fresh new talent [that public interest broadcasters should be developing] - connected to the modern world , connected to MY world and sensibilities and not pandering to the lowest common denominator to boost a tabloid culture... at the cost of my taxes.

stop complaining? hello? what is the object of a discussion thread...

I mean... people need to stop complaining to ofcom at the drop of a hat. By no means do i mean stop complaining on this thread... that is always encouraged!

oh come on !!! you can do better than that!

yes of course there is such a thing as the professional complainant ! but - that is to totally miss [understand] the point of why people are offended ... this 'it's only a joke' line has been echoed through the ages ...but, his stuff is not 'subversive' or wittily drawing our attention to the wider issues - it's just straight [in every sense of the word] back to the swamp stuff...

What do you think is the purpose of Current in it's wider remit ?? if not to debate the veracity & relevance of communications to a new generation?

people here are saying they don't like or agree with the politic of this comedian - that it's not enough , that we need to do better!

this is how things change when people speak out..? it's called communications...

    • Does anyone actually listen to his show - sometimes maybe he goes too far but most of the time he's actually really funny. I know it's a fine line between funny and offensive but stop complaining!! Or the futre will be full or mediocre presenters who are too afraid to crack a joke.

    • I used to really like Moyles' show (years ago) but it has had its day - it all seems very childish now. I wouldn't comment on people's looks if I was him either.

    • I know several people who have worked with him at Radio 1. One is one of his producers now and the other was his exec producer once and he genuinely isn't some gay hating lunatic. I know people who remain good friends with him and find him a nice bloke. Unfortunately for him he's made his bed now.

I think he's working on the Channel 4 TV show because he knows the writing is on the wall at Radio 1. The BBC cant stand by him much longer, the climate isn't right for his excesses.

I've enjoyed his show at times though he can be pretty funny. I used to listen every day, but these days its just tired and we've all moved on.

    • I get so bored of people slagging off Moyles. Of course he's a bit offensive and pushes the boundaries - frankly, the BBC is so bloody scared of offending anyone they tend to be OTT in terms of being politically correct.

Most people who have a go at Moylesy don't even listen to him, it's just a bandwagon thing.

    • Judging from 4 of 5 previous comments, is this primarily an internal debate at Current HQ?

Don't make me bring in Al to negotiate a peace!

    • What do you think of the Channel 4 TV ad that makes a big deal of them 'nicking' Moyles from the BBC. Does anyone outside of the industry care?

    • I bet he loves this sort of controversy. Not serious enough to get him sacked but great for publicity and establishing him as radio's 'rebellious' voice.
