The more people inform themselves, the more prohibitionists like this asshole Hutchinson will seem completely out of touch with reality (which he totally is).
THEY CAN'T KEEP LYING TO US!!!! THE TRUTH WILL PREVAIL!!!
I'm very strongly considering a trip to DC this July to join in the national protest of prohibition. The social climate seems perfect for such an action!

The federal government is being ignorant to their own guidelines.
Cannabis and THC should have been removed from Schedule 1 long ago (or never put there in the first place)
THAT is the underlying problem and the reason why the feds are at odds with the states. As far as the feds are concerned THEIR law says Cannabis is highly dangerous, highly addictive, and has NO medicinal value. This is in direct opposition to reality and SOMETHING MUST BE DONE ABOUT IT!!

The debate IS changing!!!
We are constantly seeing, more and more now, new findings emerging as hundreds of medical studies are conducted.
Not only that but there are increasingly huge numbers that have found personal relief, sometimes even the elimination of cancer, with the use of cannabis when other drugs didn't work and actually made them ill in other ways. We can thank the 13 brave states that have gone against the government in favor of the people for shedding more light on the reality of medicinal marijuana. BTW, my own father just found relief from Meneir's disease with cannabis and said he feels better now than he has in the last two years! You can't tell me it's not medicine and you can't tell me it's not safe. I KNOW BETTER AND SO DO MILLIONS OF OTHERS!!
ALSO, with the increasingly spreading concerns about the environment and our need to reduce dependence on foreign oil, we can no longer ignore the ban on industrial hemp. It is EXACTLY what we need to play a huge part in accomplishing our goals and strengthening our country.
It seems to me that while there are still people using the same worn out lies to defend prohibition, there are exponentially more people finding out the TRUTH about Cannabis.
The only people who are arguing against it either don't have ANY personal experience with cannabis or other drugs or they have had a brief and unpleasant experience with it and have fallen back to the political dogmas that were started in the 30's.
It's time to end this, we DO have the numbers, perhaps not 100%, but I am confident we are nearly 50% supported by the public which is a long way coming from only 10 - 20% in previous decades.
The truth is coming out and thanks to the internet, it's both happening faster than ever and doing so in a way that our government can't control.
Free your mind, free the weed, HEAL THE WORLD!!!

Want to make hemp popular? Start importing plastic bottles made from hemp (you can purchase the plastic product from a supplier out of Austrailia I believe) and starting selling "100% biodegradable bottled water" to the common people.
Within 5 years every plastic will be biodegradable if it is used in food services. That alone would do more to save the earth than any emissions regulation.
We don't have to compromise. We can have the cake and eat it too. It's called renewable plastics, an idea that has been unheard of until just a few years ago (or when Henry Ford made his Ethanol powered T concept with tube frame and plastic body panels some 60 years ago).

Make it legal. Regulate it. Have standards from the FDA.
Tax the hell out of it. Create jobs for farmers on marginal land and new farmers. Create jobs with labs that process it. Create jobs for truckers or other delivery people. Create jobs with sales reps from processers.
And the tax would really help the state governments.
Also set an age standard like there is with liquor. And keep the Mexican cartel out of the USA because no one would need their cannabis.

simplecj, Besides the economic benefits and cutting off the Mexican mafia military cartel, the by products of hemp could be used in biodiesel, rope and fiber making and a multitude of undiscovered things. I live in an agricultural state and there are many who have marginal land that is not the fertile cresecent but would grow cannabis well.
In the past the by products of sugar cane were used to make ceiling tiles that had a 15 to 20 year life and a high insulation value. In Brazil today they use the bagass as fuel to turn sugar cane into fuel for vehickles. In WWII tung oi nuts from trees that grew in the clay soils in the south, was used to make lubricants for airplanes and other machinery.
So....its just insane to black list cannabis. - 3 years ago

Historic uses include: parchment (declaration of independence), rope, clothing, blankets, burlap (replaced with a plastic-nylon synthetic, used to fertilizer came in a bag that could be buried under its contents and biodegrade), fuel (diesel most notably)
Future/current uses: Plastic (see: http://www.hempplastic.com/newSite/index.htm - Henry Ford made a prototype hemp Plastic car with a tube frame that ran on Ethanol from Corn... this was over 60 years ago), Diesel, Ethanol, Clothing, Paper, OMEGA3 and OMEGA6 supplement.

It seems this conversation is getting more main stream. Each side has had the same points forever and from my perspective, they haven’t really changed. I came to a personnel decision that I support a movement to legalize it, tax it, and decriminalize it. This decision was based simply on a PRO/CON list. Anyone in a rational, logical, and empathetic state of mind should come up with the same outcome. It excites me to see this topic brought to the forefront; it is exactly what our movement needs. If you make this argument in front of the masses, logic will prevail. I am not a fan of CNBC but I applaud them for taking this topic seriously. (Or were they trying to reach the “Daily Show” audience they lost with the Cramer vs. Jon Stewart throw down?)
Next Step…Get the president on, have him answer the same logical arguments. - 3 years ago

President Obama should right the wrongs of Richard Nixon. He should take cannabis hemp off the Dangerous Substance List and let the conversation and research begin.
We voted for change! We voted for President Obama, it's time to change the cannabis hemp laws.
Cannabis hemp has history. It was removed from educational material, but it is history none the less.
Cannabis hemp prohibition does not save lives. The prohibition hurts more peoople than it helps.

I don't know what everyone's opinion is regarding this subject, but I personally KNOW that cannabis is a safe and effective medicine that can treat a multitude of illnesses from glaucoma to cancer.
It's a crime against humanity to keep people from accessing what is often their only source of relief; relief from both their ailments as well as the side effects of the many heavy pharmaceutical drugs that doctors have had them on.
The War on Cannabis is a travesty and has only allowed criminal organizations to get filthy rich while we continue to lock up hundreds of thousands of innocent non-violent offenders for simple possession.
These laws need to change, Cannabis needs to be utilized and our government needs to quit lying to us and start helping us establish a more rational approach to the "drugs" issue. Additionally we should be growing and utilizing hemp for it's super nutritious seed and superior fiber for the thousands of things they can be used for.
Isn't it about time??
My proposal is that Cannabis be regulated much like alcohol is today. You would have licensed vendors selling quality controlled products that are clearly labeled for their contents. These vendors would also be legally required to enforce a strict age limit of 21 to minimize access to minors. Sales would of course be taxed, much like alcohol and tobacco are taxed now, which could easily generate into the billions of dollars per year for each state, not to mention all the money they could reap from hemp production on otherwise useless farmlands.
For those who need cannabis for medicinal purposes, they should be given un-taxed access to the best available medicinal strains with liberty to try different strains to find what works best for them. No one has ever died from cannabis, it's impossible to overdose on it, so you wouldn't really have to worry about anyone ODing on these meds =)
For those who want to grow it themselves, they should be able to do so with limits on quantities.
I can (and do) brew my own fruit wines and ales and am allowed by law to have up to 200 gallons of homebrew at any given time, as long as I do not sell any of it. Why should this be any different for cannabis? It's a lot of work to do it right with either cannabis or beer and I'm sure that most people would opt out for store bought herb.
So that's my two cents. The Drug War is an utter failure, I would like to believe there is a better way...

BEAUTIFUL
why cant this become a reality?
why cant prohibitionists see the light beyond the dark and realize the financial potential that could come from regulation?
that damned movie reefer madness and other propaganda have warped the minds of people seemingly irreversibly. i know how it goes though. i used to be very anti-drug, and then i took my first bong hit, and i really liked how it opened my mind up to a new way of thinking. and nothing seemed harmful at all. i always feel great the next day after a good solid high.and the prohibition is losing its grip. slowly but surely, the people have been opening up their eyes to the light of ganja. nature's intended medicine.

That's not just any man, that's Charlie Lynch!! I knew he was sceduled for sentencing today, I hope this delay brings more attention to the case and that they find some way to let Charlie go.
He's currently looking at something like 50-80 years, which is a bullshit sentence for a guy who may have sold to minors, but he says that he only did so with written approval by their parents and only if they were over the age of 18.
Problem is that under Federal law, you aren't an adult until you're 21 and it doesn't matter to them that the parents of the "minors" gave consent. It's medicine for God's sake, it's not like he was selling them meth, they needed cannabis to feel better and treat their illnesses. It's cases like this that make me so sick to hear them say "but he broke the law". What we should be asking is are the laws fair and the answer is undoubtably NO FUCKING WAY THEY ARE FAIR!! CANNABIS IS HARMLESS AND VERY HELPFUL TO MANY MANY PEOPLE!!!
