Czech Government Fails

Days before Barack Obama's first presidential visit to Europe in Prague, the coalition in the Czech Parliament has fallen apart.

The vote of "no confidence" has sent the Czech and international media into a frenzy with many calling the event an embarrassment for the Czechs, who are holding the EU presidency for the first time.

For the past months, Czech leaders have been wrestling with whether to ratify the EU's Lisbon Treaty as well as whether to allow a US radar base for the controversial missile shield.

Prime Minister Mirek Topolánek may resign next Wednesday, April 1...

    • Ireland has fallen too. The US won't last because we are still just printing money trying to buy our way out of the recession.

That's obviously not going to work as the current EU president has noted. Geitner's policy of bailouts and stimulus' under Obama are the same as they were under Paulson.

      From the Washington Post:

“All of these steps, these combinations and permanency, is the road to hell,” Czech Prime Minister Mirek Topolanek said. “The United States did not take the right path.”

    • @inofuilwell i see your point: Obama is simply riding on the avalanche that began during the Bush administration. i give Barack credit for trying to clean this mess up.

however, i would like to see a leader in office with REAL change in mind. Obama seems to be aloof in all of this: a helpless puppet. wasn't there a senator who saw all this coming and proposed a phenomenal business plan to combat the coming economic crisis? like, years ago? right... Ron Paul. it seems we like to elect utopic pretty faces who say what every 18-38 yr old wants to hear, rather than putting a president in office who will follow through on promises of getting shit done and getting it done right.

    • Uncle Charlie,

What a revolting post. I assume you are still mad because the Pope didn't push a new wave of Crusaders to attack and conquer the Middle East.

After eight years of Bush, your ideas appear to be those of a clearly brain-dead Bushite.

His cronyism with mega corporations and the illegal War on Iraq is what caused the financial collapse in September.

Remember Barack Obama had not even been elected, let alone implemented any policies.

And Bush's people helped write the Stimulus Package along with Congress.

How can one poster be so wrong?

    • It got me dreaming....a vote of "No confidence" in Mr. BH Obama....impeachment....criminal incompetence....felony impersonation of a Commander in Chief....and then I woke up, and I had to face reality.....but then I remembered Dorothy's words in the "Wizard of Oz" where she sang that if you wish upon a star, those dreams really do come true....so I've been wishing on a star for the last week.....hope it comes true...

Wow..not only do you lack an understanding of our real world but you also completely missed the major point of the Wizard of Oz.

lol...thank you for demonstrating your reasoning and comprehension skills.

    • Here is another interesting article that outlines some possible repercussions on the missile shield and the European "constitution."

The bit on the Czech Republic's vanished authority is particularly worth reading!
