Gardasil for boys?

The vaccine's maker is trying to get approval to sell the vaccine for boys, and the debate is focusing on something else entirely: Is it worth the money, and is it safe and effective enough?

For males, the vaccine is aimed at protecting against genital warts and less common malignancies that HPV can cause, such as penile and anal cancer, as well as cancer of the mouth and throat. The virus causes at least 250,000 new cases of genital warts and an estimated 7,500 cancers in males each year, causing perhaps about 1,000 deaths. Vaccinating boys and men would also help prevent the spread of the virus to their sexual partners.

    • Even immigrants if you want to become a US resident you have to give the vaccine to your little girls , I think this is crazy.
      Merck company is making millions of dollars with this bullshit and we owe this to the governor of Texas, whose political campaign was paid by Merck company what a coincidence.

    • Alot girls who are getting vacinated with gardazil are getting alergies, paralisis,some have died . To be honest with you I dont want to have kids on this days is scary what is going on here in the US.
      If you dont vaccinate your kid you could arrested, the goverment dont give people the choice to decide if they really want to give this to their kids.

    • Best way to prevent STIs is to have an honest monogamous relationship or use protection.

      Vaccines for petty "can cause" BS are ridiculous. We make it a cake walk for our immune system now and then we'll perish when a real epidemic hits.

      That goes for the flu as well.

    • I understand how important it is to prevent STIs, but Gardasil hardly helps since it only protects against 4 strains. Using condoms whenever you are unsure of your partner and getting yearly pap smears will prevent cervical cancer better than Gardasil.

      Gardasil is essentially just a placebo, meaning someone's making a ton on money off of this...

    • i wonder why if Gardasil can come up with a vaccine for women that protects against some of the strains that cause cervical cancer (allegedly) why aren't they vaccinating boys with the same to prevent passing those strains onto their partners?

      Ok, first off, the one for women is useless at best and now they want to shoot up boys and men too?

      Vaccines do more harm than good.

    • This is one shot I refuse to get. I dont think its necessary at all. Im not going to take my chances with cervical cancer because that's what preventive steps like pap smears are for.

    • Lets "RE-Purpose" another drug. These companies know that there is a high percentage of poorly educated people that they can fear into using their drugs. I blame the FDA for letting this happen. Forget the Recession, the number one problem in the world is the addiction to prescription drugs. Anytime something is called a system you should worry. Example the prison system, operating system, banking system and the health care system

      well you know I always thought it was poorely veiled population control. I have a feeling many people are gonna wake up years from now sterile form these vaccinations. If I'm wrong go ahead and laugh at me, but the pushiness of this company leads me to believe they want to make the most money they can before the signs start to show

      There are already signs as evident through investigations and through patients' accounts. The sad thing is that it's not getting media attention and people are too stupid because of the catchy song and phrase of being "one less"

    • I was forced to get the Gardasil injections because my parents were wrapped up in the hype of this ~wonderful~ cure for this virus. And as anglcazn said above - the vaccine only protects 4 out of MANY strains.

    • The makers of Garadsil are nothing but a for-profit pharmaceutical company. They have no interest in their patients' health. The vaccine only protects four out of the numerous amounts of HPV strains. What many do not know and fail to research is that your body already fights off the HPV virus on it's own. First, it becomes an infection if the HPV virus infects the body. After several years of being left untreated, it may turn into cancer. To prevent yourself from getting cervical cancer, get regular pap scans.

      The company has already brainwashed women into thinking that they can be "one less," are forcing immigrants from other countries to take the vaccine or they will be kicked out of the country because they need more test subjects, and now they want to brainwash men. I wonder if they're going to stick with the advertisement of men being this "one less" idea.

      while i agree i still think its a worthy reason, 4 strains down is still worth it, especial when we have a culture that is so accustomed to high risk sex.

      I know guys who have (long before this came out) took the vaccine to protect themselves and their partners.

      Your body will fight anything it considers to be a foreign invador, that dose not mean it wil win.

      then you're basically paying for a vaccine and hoping that the strain you get will be fought off. Not only that, but there are many side effects to shot as shown through the links presented. Such as that it causes genital warts in women.

      That is blatantly wrong. What is considered a "high risk sex?" Is it sex before marriage? Sex with a condom? And if that was true, that it can most likely be blamed on abstinence only education. Educating only on abstinence will contribute to risky sexual acts because of the lack of knowledge of contraceptives such as birth control and condoms.

      I will repost my comment from a previous thread.

      HPV will cause an infection and when left UNTREATED FOR A LONG PERIOD OF TIME, then it will become cancer. It's not like you get the HPV strains and BOOM, you have cancer. You can also check through checkup by getting a pap smear. And if you don't have any money or insurance, you can go through Planned Parenthood who will do it for free if you're under some money trouble.
      What a lot of people failed to miss are the words "Persistent" "Over a long period of time" "Several years" of the progression to cancer. HPV can be treated by your body or by a doctor with medication. Merck is a profiteering pharmaceutical company that cares more about money than the interests and health of it's consumers.
