"Last week, a new study by the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery revealed that Americans are receiving 11% fewer breast augmentations, 25.3% fewer liposuctions and 19% fewer eye tucks. Even relatively affordable and obtainable Botox injections had dropped from 2.7 million in 2007 to 2.4 million last year.

Ask glossy magazine editors and they’ll tell you that the celeb-obsessed these days are more into down-to-earth mommies such as Michelle Williams or Jennifer Garner, not hotties like Paris Hilton. And waning ratings for MTV’s “The City” indicate that patience is running out on dopey Whitney Port’s skin-deep brand of beauty.

“I’ve noticed a gentle reevaluation of what’s important to people,” says Dr. Drew Pinsky, whose latest book, “The Mirror Effect: How Celebrity Narcissism Is Seducing America,” hit shelves last week.

“They’re coming up with the right answer, which is that what’s important is the people we really care about, and spending time with them – not getting our lips bigger or helping our droopy eyelids.”"

    • Plus if you can't run to the doctor for a quick fix and back to the damaging lifestyle, maybe people will take better care of what they have and be more preventative. ie.: 1) Like not smoking since it depletes vit. C and causes skin damage and wrinkles. 2) or weight flucuations that cause pockets of unattractive stuff hard to get rid of afterwards. 3) Instead be more careful in diet style 4) and increase activity, even if it's doing stretches after you get out of the shower in the batroom. Tighten up the muscles, skin and with the right moves straighten your spine and help you with better breathing and improve your posture so you look and feel better.
Thanks for this post. I've been practicing this for years since high school when someone I liked called me chubby, in 9th grade. I thought I'll show them.
And I've taken care of this body since, it's the only one I have!!!

    • It's nice to to look good, but we know life is not all about outward beauty. If it makes you feel good, and if you can afford it....then go for it! However don't be surprised if your new outward appearance is still dealing with your same old inward self. Do it for all the RIGHT reasons..

Women in particualr should be sure not to over do it. How many times have we seen it, that "So-And-So," left that sweet beatiful young thing, for someone, who made you go W-H-A--T-TTT?!

Meanwhile you meet up at the Class Reunion, and you have to tell folks who you are....Not because you look so good...but so Different!

Rmemeber time catches up with you.

    • Now, is it because people are starting to accept their bocdies for what they are, or is it because it's too expensive? Things that make you go hmm...

    • i think people should do what makes them happy and comfortable in there skin. i don't think any economic crisis will get in the way of vanity and women :) we would give up eating before our face cream- oh wait , we already gave up eating... you see what im saying. that alone should save money for the real important stuff in life - like being perfect.

    • They mentioned this on TV the other day, one Plastic Surgeon said because of the economy they have seen a downturn on major surgery and an upswing on cheaper procedures such as injections.
