First of all Congress is in control, the President has very little power. Yes, the Demorcrats have been in control for two years and for the next two will be able to move things through unimpeded by the Democrat President.
Yes, it will take time to get things passed through congress to change things so raids may continue for a while.
And, iamfree is right regarding the federal reserve and the monetary system. - 3 years ago

"They" said they would?? If you're referring to the DEA, then your wrong. As far as the DEA is concerned nothing has changed.
Just because Obama and Eric Holder said that they would stop the raids, doesn't make it law. Until a law is passed that removes the Federal and State law conflict, this problem will not be solved.
Also, don't expect Obama to stick his neck out on this subject. He's already done more than any president in the last several decades has done just by talking rationally about it. Yet, he can't change it on his own, nor can he really put any pressure on the rest of the government. The republicans are already gunning for Obama to fail. They would eat him alive if he was to take a strong pro-cannabis stance right now. It would be like throwing kerosene on a fire, and that's not going to help our cause at all.
We the people have a lot of work to do in order to inform the public of the truth of cannabis. The government isn't going to just admit that they've been wrong and Obama can't do it all himself.
Just like millions of people campaigned for the presidency, I think we need to campaign for the end of cannabis prohibition, mainly through educating the people who are against us first. If we have an overwhelming majority of support, there's nothing they can do to stop it.
Stop looking to Obama as if he's an all-powerful dictator. His powers are pretty limited and his opposition is pretty overwhelming without throwing the cannabis issue into the mix.
It's up to us, lets get to work!

Grassroots people don't stop what you're doing! I believe the most important changes occur from the bottom up, not the top down. Most politicians aren't even equipped to uphold the best interests of the citizenry that elected them.

People who have read my posts and responses know that I'm not a hater but, with that said, I do have to admit, I'm starting to become a little concerned with all of the back-tracking by Obama on a lot of his more proggressive campaign promises. I was hoping for a little more I think. Anyone else?

I read the initial article and I fail to see Obama being involved in any part of it. The DEA seems to be the one running the show in this case. As some have stated in this post, it will take some time for the DEA to modify their positions on drugs and their procedures of dealing with them. The article indicates that the DEA believes there have been some violations on not only state but federal laws. This is entirely possible. I wasn't there so I can only speculate or imagine what the truth really is.
I believe Obama has far greater issues facing him than medical marijuana. In my state you will go to jail if you get caught with a joint. Some actually go to prison if they have more than what is deemed for immediate personal use.
That being said, those of you that can grow it and use it legally are so much better off than so many here that need it and can't even have it.
I believe in California you can grow approximately twenty plants. That is a hell of a lot more than a joint. I would think you could do a Cheech and Chong smoke out with that much!
My point when I said in the beginning, "I believe Obama has far greater issues facing him than medical marijuana," is the millions of people that have and are loosing their jobs. They are quite possibly loosing every thing they own. The economy is in the tank and his priority is to try and turn this thing around to where people stop loosing their jobs and everything else they have worked for.
In the meantime I am sure all of you will be able to find some medicinals. Obama will get to you eventually I am sure.
Having said all of that, TOKE ON and keep "fighting for your right to PARTY"!

one more time.....if we want government that cares then take the cash incentive out of it. pay their bills while in office and let em make their millions selling their story when they are out of office....no story = no profit = incentive to do a good job.......and if there is an issue with unpaid taxes then send the tax collectors!

I think that the solution is simple, legalize it, tax it, and give part of the revenue to fund police operations so they can focus on the real problems like meth, heroine, and crack.

Legalize it (marijuana), tax it and take the proceeds to help regulate the quality. Take a look back at the prohibition days. History has a story to tell here. Take the proceeds and help to feed and educate the poor and the homeless.
The hardcore drugs on the other hand are a much bigger problem as they can ruin peoples lives. Not all people can maintain control when they start to use. This is a difficult one to deal with as it has pro's and con's that are huge on both sides.

Isn't it obvious the DEA agents involved are rogue ?
Even if there is some Federal Statute giving them the authority to collect state taxes, that could only likely be legally done if the State itself were obstructed effectively from doing its job. At least that's most likely how both the California Courts & Federal District Court in San Francisco would rule on this issue. So if it can be proven that taxes were a phony issue, then the DEA Trespass was committed under the color of authority. Depending on how the California Statute on Official Misconduct is worded, the DEA agents involved may have committed Crime(s) under ther California Code. Obstruction of Governmental Administration (of the Cal. Med M. Law) may also have been committed. Obviously there's probable cause for a criminal investigation. People should not be so quick to judge. Laws involve Jurisprudence, which means caution. Slow down. Speed kills. It wouldn't do to immitate those DEA idiots. They carry on as if they want to be high on adrenelin for the thrill of rushing in and raiding. Obviously they think they're predators. (Adrenelin was designed for the fight or flight response) Immitating them by rushing to judgement would be a mistake. - 3 years ago

If they were evading sales tax, I can see why the federal government took interest- but as the article said there is no reason to "enter like storm troopers and steal all of the business's inventory."
This story plus others on the news page today should be a wake up call to marijuana activists: the fight is not over and this Admin is NOT convinced. We need to continue the fight for patient's rights as well as stop the American drug war!

I generally agree with both ihatethemall and iamfree in a lot of ways; people should be encouraged to vote for 3rd party candidates, they should be allowed in the debates and treated like a more serious part of our government system. The bankers, lobbyists, etc should not have the power that they do. I think you'd be hard pressed to find someone who disagrees with that!
But to think that everyone who voted for Obama was somehow "tricked" into something or believes that he is flawless is...just craziness. There has been a lot of change and hope in this country due to Obama's election. The fact is I'm not sure another politician could be doing what Obama is doing right now- dealing with the situation, talking to the people, reaching out to the public in ways that other presidents (and generally the entire government) hasn't and making groups of people who felt alienated and disenchanted by the "system" (primarily minorities and young people) feel more represented in their country.
Obama is not perfect. He will make mistakes, he will "lie", he will make the choices he thinks are right and we will find out if they are. Before I pass judgment and leave hateful comments however, I will give him a chance. Why won't you?

Deliah what you have to understand is that instead of protecting the president or even worrying about what he is doing..worry about what the bankers are doing. They are the source of all of our problems...they create money out of thin air (its backed only by the money that is in circulation now)...they are the masters...its time we wake up and really look at the big pictures...we as americans always get caught up in the drama...and forget to solve the root causes...if we just look back at history the truth reveals itself and shows that the Federal reserve is a fraud..a methodical scheme...put in place to harness a false sense of control...Economic slavery folks...believe it or deny..it will never change the fact until you become aware of Y"our" own power.....

I hate the mall too, especially the food court. Obama laughed at us for asking for our freedom back? I guess it is funny, asking for your freedom from somebody who really has no say over the DEA. The best he could do is pardon you after you are convicted etc. He probably never smoked weed. That was to get the optimist stoner votes. Following his hero Clinton's lead with the inhale talk. IHTM is right. He's getting paid off by the Lawyers, doctors, FOP (police), corrections, pharmas etc. These sectors profit wildly from the controlled substances act. It enslaves the people to them. Your very health is bought and sold. Your health is held for ransom. You have to have permission for anything you do. You can't even bicycle without a permit. I am beginning to miss George W. Bush. During his administration all we had to worry about was whether or not it was a yellow, orange, or a red alert on terror and what the body count was in Iraq. On a daily basis we could get up, brush our teeth and appreciate the new possibilities of how many of our rights may have been undermined during the night. It was a time of bliss.
Now we have a damn president that gets up every morning and actually shows up for work. He addresses more issues in one day than GWB did in his entire political career. His plate is so full of gotta do's that if it were a banquet, it would be fit for a king.
I believe his main goal of the day is to put a plug in the gaping hole left by GWB"S administration in the juggler of the American economy and world status. Chimpy, where are you?
