Gordon Brown has reportedly offered to send even more British troops to serve on operations in Afghanistan.

According to UK officials speaking before the Nato summit, troops could be dispatched to help provide security in the run up to the Afghanistan presidential elections.

They did however stress that the dispatch would "only be temporary and would most likely involve hundreds, not thousands, of troops."

    • Would it not be wiser to let the Afghans stand up on their own two feet and develop their own infrastructure, rather than sending in more troops whose very presence serves as an aggravator?

    • Let's hope they keep their word, otherwise we might see even more demonstrations like the ones held in France leading up to the summit.
