AP: Drugs found in drinking water

A vast array of pharmaceuticals — including antibiotics, anti-convulsants, mood stabilizers and sex hormones — have been found in the drinking water supplies of at least 41 million Americans, an Associated Press investigation shows.

To be sure, the concentrations of these pharmaceuticals are tiny, measured in quantities of parts per billion or trillion, far below the levels of a medical dose. Also, utilities insist their water is safe.

    • I know some hospitals put their unused drugs directly down the drain as well. For example, a drug may come loaded up in a one-use syringe. The appropriate dosage is administered and they can't use any leftovers so they just shoot it down the sink and throw the needle in the sharps bin.

      That seems like a bad idea to me.

    • I recently read an article talking about this and it stated that doctors have associated 15% of all E.D. or ( erectile dysfuntion) cases with this problem the rest were family health issues and then 70-73% were from smoking cigarettes. With water not even being "clean" how can you trust anything you eat , smoke, drink, or ingest.. its freaking scary and i hope they can figure a way out to get water back to "normal" i mean i know it cant be pure unless you boil it and remove the "bad" but stuff you city supplies you with should never contain the chemicals found in this article.

    • I hate them. I hate them all, all the people who are putting our health at risk with poison water, poison food, poison animal food. Everyone responsible for things like this should be punished by making them use their own product!

    • This has been going on for decades. Where else would they end up? We are pissing in the well at this point. Our current municipal water suppliers are not even capable of removing these health endangering, immune-system weakening substances. As the consumers, it's been left up to us to take responsibility to insure that what we drink is healthy. I highly recommend filtering your tap water or having your well tested & not relying on bottled water, which has its own serious issues.
