Steroid junkies at the age of 11

"Teenage boys are increasingly ending up in hospital after injecting anabolic steroids in the search for the 'perfect body'.

The number of under-18s admitted for poisoning from the muscle-building drugs has soared by almost half in five years, from 97 to 138.

But that is only the tip of the iceberg, according to official figures.

The number of 11 to 15-year-olds taking steroids almost doubled between 2001 and 2007, from 6,800 to 13,300."

This makes me think that either I grew up in a different time or have led a sheltered life. It doesn't seem like it was that long ago that i was a kid (I would have been 11 in the early 90's) and I don't even think i would know or have had a single thought about drugs, let alone where to get them from. I'm sure it did happen but nowadays kids of this age are fathers, taking steroids to get the the perfect body and torturing other kids.

Where did it all go wrong?

    • The pic isn't photoshopped believe it or not. The kid trained with his parents who owned a gym chain and competed. It looks like an old pic though. I am not sure if he used roids, but I saw him on Discovery years back.

    • that is just disturbing on so many levels.

      Mind you, it's simply the male equivalent of the young girls who starve themselves to try and meet the ideals they see in magazines and on tv.

      In both cases these kids need to be told that what they are doing is harming them and will not bring them happiness.

    • nobody wants to put the work in ,,,,,,just cheat,,,,,,,,,plus at that age thier body has still to go through 3 or 4 natural increase in body mass ,, organs ,, puberty,,, like so strong man jean paul sigmarsen when his autopsy was carried out is found that his heart was almost 5 times the size it should have been as he was takeing steroids and your heart is nothing but a big lump of well tuned muscle,,,,,,,,,,,,,,i have seen all shapes and sizes as i worked in a gym for a few years

    • This is horrible! How did society get to this ridiculous stage? Not to mention muscles are ugly, why can't the media send that message out?
