Happy Pesach Seder!

Image

Why is this night different from all other nights?

Why tonight do we eat only unleavened bread?

Why tonight do we eat bitter herbs?

Why tonight do we dip them twice?

Why tonight do we all recline?

    • A shicksa we used to hang out with was born to a Polish father, adopted by an Italian stepfather, and eventually married to a Jewish guy. Her name was Linda Perizanski Mirabella Fish.

After they'd been dating for a while, Roger invited her to eat dinner with his family. After accepting, she asked what they would be eating. He replied, "Roast."

      "Roast what?"

"What do you mean, 'roast what'? Just roast!"

Like maybe roast pork might have been on the menu?

    • I'm not a religious person but I did learn about Passover in Catholic schools.

The thing about Catholics, during Lent, they don't eat meat on Fridays. As a child this really upset me. Because Friday night was always hamburger night for the family. Then this one Friday night mom told me God didn't want me to have a hamburger. I think that's about when God and I went our separate ways.

    • Why during this season does Coca Cola sell super-kosher products sweetened with cane sugar rather than corn syrup? (The bottle caps are a different color so you can tell the difference.)

I'm not stupid, and I'm not completely insensitive. But I'm pretty sure I'll never be able to comprehend why the God Mormons worship is so hung up on the kind of underpants they wear, or why the G_d Jews worship is so hung up on the original source of the sucrose they ingest.

But who cares? Whatever floats your boat. If invited to attend a seder, I'd feel honored. But I wouldn't eat gefilte fish.
