I'm saddened by this news. Rarely does something good come out of the Hagerstown, MD area. Nick had an amazing career ahead of him and to lose his life to a drunk driver is terrible. I guess even though his life was cut short he accomplished more than many others could ever ask for.

What pisses me off about this story, is that the prison/ law enforcement / legal industrial complex is using it to exploit people.
They will use alcohol as a reason to keep other things illegal, and notice how EVERY crash that either driver has a trace of alcohol then it's "alcohol related" ? two people destined to be lawyers, cogs in the injustice machine. Nobody exploits "coffee related" crashes. Sober drivers kill more than any others. Why not crack down on sober drivers too? Another sobriety related accident. And yeah I can find good in everything. Two less lawyers in the world, four less carbon footprints. One less false hero. A monkey can throw a ball. Go worship it. And to his parents, I'm sorry you lost your son. Look on the bright side. - 3 years ago

Thanks you for taking this story and bringing it way of the damn spectrum of why people are mourning the death of 3 people in the first place. You've made it quite clear that you're just the prime example of why marijuana should be illegal due to the pathetic nihilistic attitude you've developed. You think that you are being anti establishment and radical by being raving prick.

There is nothing good about a 22 yr old kid who loses his life senselessly.. And correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the world made a big deal out of Mother Theresa's death....and no one said she wasn't a hero...or compared the two.
Face it, your comments are abrasive for the sake of being so, and aren't relevant to anything except for shedding light on your over-the-top bitterness towards the way this tragedy has been covered by the media.
I get it. There are far heavier tragedies in this world than the death of a baseball player and two of his friends, but is this your idea of spreading awareness? Weak.

Most auto fatalities are caused by sober drivers. Just to keep things in perspective most who get killed are at least partially at fault. Apparently this guy wasn't very good at dodgeball. Oh well one less lawyer in the world... boo hoo.

Thats pretty heartless and fucked up. I'm betting you're one of those people who gets some kind of of sick pleasure out diverting the focus of a tragedy onto yourself. Why don't you just post "LOOK AT ME" or "HE DESERVED IT, NOW SOMEONE PLEASE ARGUE WITH ME." Well...it worked.

In this case the violator already had a prior dui and was speeding through a red light when he struck another car and killed 3 people. Thanks for adding to the moronic head count on here.

No disrespect, but how is this human any different from the countless others that die every hour? So he's good at some sport, he's more human and more important than thousands others?

I will tell you why this guy is not different from other human beings, but very special in his own regards. This cat tapped into the vast well that is the human spirit and realized his call in life. He was fulfilling his own dreams, all the while most probably bringing joy and pride to his own family/friends and undeniably bringing joy and pride to fans of baseball. I believe the loss of young talent, in any form or field, is tragic because the human race is robbed of someone who is very willing to give of themselves and of their talent. Not every 22 year-old can bring joy to so many people, while bettering themselves mentally and physically.
Maybe he is more important than the thousands of others who die everyday, contributing nothing to society. The argument might hold merit. The loss of a homeless man is nonetheless sad due to the unrealized human potential that will never materialize. I can only hope you and I are both so fortunate to bring joy to others while doing something that simultaneously brings us joy.
This guy was a human being who actually meant something to other human beings. You just don't hear about the countless others who don't share the media spotlight from time to time. I believe that is enough to warrant a celebration of his brief life, however one sees fit, don't you, cerealforeal?

Like I said, no disrespect. But yall definitely fall for it.
So what about the death of a child in rural Uganda? Them being born there is out of their hands, and yet their death doesn't deserve spotlight like this guy that was lucky enough to be born in one of the wealthiest nations in the world? Actually you wouldn't be phased one bit if I told you that a kid just now died in Uganda. Shit you wouldn't even want to know his name.

I get what you're saying, but isn't that a lot like posting a video about poverty, hunger, and AIDS ravishing Africa, and then someone posting comments asking"how are these people any different from the millions of homeless and impoverished in a America?" That would be an a dick move, would it not?
He played baseball and reached his ultimate dream–a dream that almost every young boy in America has had at one time or another. America can relate with this better than a child who dies in Africa.
Remember cerealforreal, tragedies don't only happen in third world nations; Americas has its own.

I know not only third world countries should get spotlight, but putting so much emphasis one on lucky man... shows you how backward humans really are. This man was lucky enough to make it to the MLB, how is his death a tragedy? Just a few centuries ago, you'd be luck to live up to 30. This guy had an amazing 23 years of life, good for him but his death is no tragedy. How many people are born into the world's worst conditions, and never make it to see the age of 5? The age of 2??? Too many.
I'm not saying this guy is nothing, but I don't get how this outweighs the deaths of people that grow up in the worst possible conditions ever. Too many people in advanced nations take life for granted.

And what exactly have you ever done to mourn a dead child in Africa? Put down the bong and stop trying to act philosophical when it comes to death and social status. You make asinine comments as if anyone was claiming this mans death was more important than anything else. The only difference is that more people are gonna be aware of who this young man was and where he came from. We here on Earth call that identifying. Grow up.

It's weird the reasons why this makes me sad. I am not the biggest baseball fan, but I follow loosely and enjoy the playoffs and the World Series. Football and basketball are more my followings, with my favorite teams being based here in New Orleans (Saints and Hornets.) Here in Louisiana, Catholicism and religion in general are main staples of life. As someone basically considering themselves agnostic, I often feel out of sync with others in regards to the whole religious, spiritual experience. Call it cheesy or weird but sports especially help me out in that department. I love the fanatic fan-following of organized, professional sports. Through my love of the New Orleans Saints, I feel a very tangible sense of unity to something so much bigger than myself that brings joy to so many others. So call that my religion. The Superdome is my church. When an active professional athlete is cut short in the prime of their life, I feel a little empty for a bit, like I am mourning the loss of a fellow parishioner or family member. His loss is no less tragic than the thousands of others who die by car collisions each year, but it is the loss of someone who has so genuinely received his inner, artistic calling that is truly disheartening.

These kinds of everyday things just seem so unfair. As a fan I watched last nights game with delight knowing in my heart this young man, younger than I, was finally getting it. Then to hear of this...just seems so terrible. I feel so bad for his parents. The stupidity of drunk drivers...to take lives like this and try to run away. People just trying to get home, so sad. RIP, Nick.
