center where the leaders were gathering.
We have postponed the meeting,” Panitan Wattanayagorn, the Thai government spokesman, told Reuters. “We have not yet set a new date.”
As images of protesters streaming into the convention center, riding escalators and waving Thai flags were being broadcast, Thailand’s Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjaijiva appeared on television and said he had declared a state of emergency, Reuters reported. “The task for me and the government is to provide security for the leaders to travel back home safely,” he said in a brief address.

Though the government may be corrupt, how is progress to be made if no communication even happens? The meeting probably shouldn't have been held in Thailand but this pretty much ruins any chances of improvement -- at least at the moment.

When you say ''communication'' I know that you are referring to honest dialogue, but it'll be the usual rhetoric as with past meetings....The crooks convene and talk the talk, smoke and mirrors, The meetings conclude with unresolved issues, the honest politicians leave confused and unsatisfied. Same old same old! what we need is an egalitarian system that functions as a collective effort governed by the many and not the few....

The Thai government is corrupt. I think it's honorable for these people to fight for a fair democratic process. Rock on anti-PM protesters!!!

No no, you got it all wrong. The three former governments were corrupt. (Well, actually just one, the following two were created when the former one was dissolved during the coup d'etat but the people behind it were the same) This current one, while not completely incorruptible is in fact the least corrupt and the most competent government Thailand has ever has for a long time. The current PM is a very smart guy but the red shi(r)ts need to give him a break and let him do the work. Read my reply to coachsopko one post above....

I don't get that. I thought we wanted these nations to get together. To protest them for individual reasons is not going to settle the issues at hand. Thailand was a poor choice to start with.

You are absolutely right. The red shi(r)ts comes from the poor rural area of Thailand. They were transported by lorry trucks to Bangkok and Pattaya to create this mess. Each gets paid between 300 to 500 bath for each day + 3 meals a day. It's all being funded by Thaksin Shinawatra, the former corrupted BILLIONAIRE Prime minister who was overthrown back in 2006 coup who's now hiding in Dubai and is the mastermind behind this. The current gov't is the most competent government Thailand has ever had. So I really hope the reds get arrested for their crime.

These are the types of measures that need to be taken if we want change! We have to let our presence be known and intimidate politicians, politicians are too snug, they must fear the people, if they feared the people they would think twice about doing corrupted %&*T! GOD BLESS THAILAND, and I hope they TAKE Their freedom SOON! YEAH!!!!!!

True, but shame because I know Obama and the U.S. where looking forward to those nations meeting and working out some issues previously discussed at other meetings.
