Woody Harrelson claims he mistook photographer for Zombie

Woody Harrelson defended his clash with a photographer at a New York airport Wednesday night as a case of mistaken identity -- he says he mistook the cameraman for a zombie.

The TMZ photographer filed a complaint with police claiming the actor damaged his camera and pushed him in the face at La Guardia Airport, according to an airport spokesman.

"We're looking into this allegation and if it's warranted, we'll turn it over to the proper authorities," said Port Authority of New York and New Jersey spokesman Ron Marsico.

The photographer, who was not identified, captured the encounter on a small camera after his larger one was broken. Harrelson, who is being sued by another TMZ photographer for an alleged assault in 2006, did not deny his involvement.

"I wrapped a movie called 'Zombieland,' in which I was constantly under assault by zombies, then flew to New York, still very much in character," Harrelson said in a statement issued Friday by his publicist.

"With my daughter at the airport I was startled by a paparazzo, who I quite understandably mistook for a zombie," he said.

    • LOL that is funny stuff. I'm glad when actors fight back. People really need to get a life, who cares that Woody just got back from wherever, why do we need to see photos of him at the airport. Think about how pissed off you would get with people following you around in public all the time taking your picture.

    • woody's a class act, sincerely. i like how he interjected "quite understandably" to his statement.

      this paparazzo boom needs to subside and these people need to find occupations that are more befitting of themselves and the reevaluation of culture. they are metaphorically zombies.

    • Man, I don't care what Woody Harrelson says or how crazy it seems, celebrities should not have to suffer through being stalked their entire lives for having a career in the public arts. It is disgusting, and short of murder I don't give a crap what happens to these photographers. How this is legal is beyond me.

    • I have battled zombies both in the virtual world and the physical. From my experiences I have come to the conclusion that the cameraman is not a zombie (At the present time). Woody is not the type of person who should be battling zombies in any form.

      Uh...most of the people who smoke cannabis never become rich and famous. They lead mundane lives, of tripping out on their girlfriends couches, while occasionally leading expeditions to find that elusive bag of Cheetos.

      I have little, to no patience for people who smoke pot, cigarettes, or drink booze. All of the folks who were "cool" in high school and college with that crap either ended up working at Walmart, Blockbuster video, or in Jail for DUI/DWI.

      I am with you on this one. My understanding is that zombies are constantly looking for "brains." That is probably as good a description of the paparazzi as any.

      I am a pretty mild-mannered guy, but the limited time I get to have with my children is very precious to me. I can't say for certain that my composure wouldn't crack just a bit if a guy stuck a camera into our space and would not back off after a couple of polite requests. I have studied Tae Kwon Do for a little over four years now simply because it is great exercise and helps me to be more alert during the day and to sleep better at night. But after breaking all those boards I have to admit it WOULD be interesting to see how much punishment the camera of an excessively nosy photographer could take...

      People need to think how they themselves would like to be constantly bombarded with cameras and flash bulbs... especially when they're going through hard times like we saw with the whole Brittany scandal.

      These people are invading privacy and degrading the morals of our society. We as citizens can have restraining orders put on those we don't want around us. Where's the protection for those who we call stars?

      There's a time and a place for putting them in the spot light, these paparazzi hacks cross the line all too often and when the people they are stalking finally get fed up and hit back, they get slapped with assault charges and the media just eats it up, usually making the star out to be an out of control whack job.

      How would it feel to be in their shoes? ... pretty irritating to say the least.

      Down with the paparazzi!

    • I think Harrelson is trying to be humorous. I guarantee he didn't actually think he was a zombie. Harrelson is a funny guy and paparazzi dicks are relentless and shallow, dispicable people who make a living off invading other people's privacy.

      We can thank the paparazzi for turning our starz into headline news instead of focusing on REAL news. These hacks need to find a real job... or be randomly decapitated like zombies.. either one works for me =P

      PS -Thanks for the video Ras. That dickhead camera man paparazzi fuck was egging Woody on, he knew he would have a hit piece if he could provoke him.

      He asked for it, it's pretty plain he was out for a story. I'd have wanted to fuck him up too!

      I just had an epiphany! Times are tough... this calls for a new business type. Paparazzi deflection. Allow movie stars, famous people, politicians to hire a "crowd" of people for a reasonable fee that will encompass them and non-violently deflect paparazzi attempting to hound or photograph them. If things get too bad they could probably safely give the paparazzi a good ass whupping and disappear into the "crowd" before getting identified as well.

      I think that could work. Cheap easy work... providing a valuable service... it's genius. Or at least it seems like it when I just woke up not too long ago!

      I don't know anyone who will just stand there as you invade their space. Most people will back off and if you can't back off you make the other person back off of you instead.

      If I was Woody I would bring a camera with me and do that shit right back to them. Put it all up in their face, walk 2 steps off their back, zoom in and out on them constantly and just totally make them feel uncomfortable. Don't touch them, but do exactly what they do...
