Artist Barnaby Barford bought porcelain figures from car boot sales for a few quid and has transformed them into modern day pieces showing the worst of British "chav" culture.
There's the happy slapping (pictured above), a family eating a bucket of KFC & kids playing with some discarded wings in a litter filled park
He said: "Most of the porcelain figures you see in the charity shops represent some ideal of childhood and I wanted to remake that to reflect today's perceptions."
Mmm. But is it art? Would you want it on your mantelpiece?

WOW - I can Really Relate to this Important New Paradigm in Conceptual Sculpture! I bet the galleries in NYC will be clamoring to collect these at the next Christie's Auction! I can SO Relate to the social context of the medium and subject in our MoDeRn WoRLd!
This is truly an important moment in ArT!!!
Congratulations to the new Steward of these monumental yet diminutive works that reflect the tenor of our time and the state of the arts today!WoW!!!

the only reason any art has any monetary value is because someone is willing to pay for it. and the reasons they pay for art are:
1. they like to look at it.
2. they think others may like to look at it.
3. they are 'collectors' who obsess about owning 'stuff'.
4. they are speculators, hoping someone else later on will be willing to pay more for it.most of the time when they pay "too much" it is for reason #4, which is very cool with me because it is a great way to support the arts.
so Please Don't Criticize the Speculators - CHEER THEM ON! - let them know how it can only increase in value, what an 'important' piece they have acquired, how it sets a 'new paradign in conceptual sculpture' , how you are 'responding' and can 'relate to' the piece (>insert sincere sounding yet unintelligible nonsense art parroting phrase here

No, they're not worth £8,000. But yes I would put those on display in my home. I think they're brilliant.

I can't beleive how much they cost, that's ridiculous. It isn't a very original idea and whilst they're quite funny, they shouldn't be worth that much or valued too highly.

They're a bit gimicky but I like his explanation. A common misconception about young people at the moment is they're all obsessed with slapping strangers to death and filming it on their phones while wearing hoods and updating their Facebook. I like the fact his statues make light of that.
