On Thursday, President Obama stood up to intense pressure from rightwingers by releasing four of the infamous "torture memos." This is an enormous victory for those of us who worked so hard to elect President Obama, while also working tirelessly to defend the Constitution against the crimes of Bush and Cheney.Unfortunately, President Obama also said he would not prosecute CIA agents who engaged in torture, simply because George Bush's lawyers told them it was "legal." President Obama also said Attorney General Eric Holder would use taxpayer dollars to defend torturers against lawsuits by torture victims, and to pay all judgments if they lost.
Tell Congress: No Amnesty for Torturers
http://www.democrats.com/no-amnesty-for-torturers?cid=ZGVtczIyODkyMWRlbXM=
These decisions are intolerable and unacceptable. Torture is utterly immoral and un-American. It produced absolutely no useful intelligence. It recruited terrorists responsible for at least half the U.S. deaths in Iraq. And it endangered every U.S. soldier who may be captured in the future.
And torture is absolutely illegal. The U.S. ratified the United Nations Convention Against Torture, which prohibits torture and requires prosecution of torturers. In 1947, the U.S. prosecuted a Japanese officer for waterboarding. No lawyer can "legalize" what is illegal.
Congress must take the following actions:
1. Demand the appointment of a Special Prosecutor by Attorney General Eric Holder for torture, warrantless wiretapping, and other heinous crimes of the Bush Administration. (Thanks to Rep. Jerrold Nadler for leading the way !)
2. Prohibit the use of any taxpayer dollars to defend government officials who committed such crimes against lawsuits, or to pay for judgments against them.
3. Impeach Judge Jay Bybee, the torture memo author who serves on the Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit in California.
4. Protect human rights by restoring Habeas Corpus and the Fourth Amendment (search and seizure), including repeal of the Orwellian-named Protect America Act, U.S.A. Patriot Act, the FISA Amendments, and Military Commissions Act.
5. End secret government by prohibiting use of "State Secrets," "Sovereign Immunity" and "Signing Statements."
Sign our Petition to Congress: No Amnesty for Torturers

Through your patience and persistence, we are moving ever closer towards the restoration of the Constitution and the Rule of Law in the nation we love.

There should not even be amnesty for people who give amnesty to torturers, they should be also tried as accomplices.

Wow how telling, a guy in a military uniform showing us how he has people "dehumanized" in his mind, and to call the rock throwers cowards that would only fight against unarmed people is the ultimate reversal.
You want to see the coward, look to USA, they will go after 16 year old boy (somali "pirate) but the won't dare rile N. Korea when they captured a journalist. So who's the cowards? Who's the a-holes whose motto is just kill them all in order to get home alive? You.

I agree torture is not right. It should not have been used. For decades we have been able to interrogate criminals and get confessions without waterboarding or bugs. There are other legal ways to interrogate and still get results.

Don't let DumbYa and Cheeneey and the crew off the hook. The constitution of the United States of America calls for thier prosecution, I back Obama but this decision I don't agrree with him on. Torture never works and any form of torture is inhumane. There are other methods of getting information out of people. I can't believe someone actually believes things are worse now than they were five months ago. Incredible but there is always that 10% who just don;t get it.

Torture doesn't work, all you get is bad info and a bunch of fellow terrorist vowing to pay back America. Why would we ever let the Bush crime family get away with this. I hope at least we can have some real investigations on this matter, congress can do this and as soon as possible. A government that tortures has it's citizens afraid of being next. That is the true reason why the Bushies tortured to keep America in fear.

If we are going to torture terrorists then we should do it right, we should do it like the old inquesition and let them die as soon as they have spilled their guts. But instead of the rack we should use sodium pentethol and a hyperbarick chamber. First give them a dose of babble juice then crank up the atmospheric pressure to about five atmosphers the let it out to create nitrogen narcosis. At this point they would probably tell you that their own mother was the leader of his or her cell and she receive orders directly from god and then give you her and any other known contacts their location and plans just to let them die.

our tax dollars are being used for people in prison which actually have it better than most of us...i would rather know my tax dollars were being spent for showing these people we are not going to take anymore...we have people on death row for years and the fact is they should be put to death right away that would give us alot less crime and less terroist ....so if you dont want torture then it should be put to death right then...
