North Korea Threatens West With Nuclear War

North Korea will consider pressure from Western nations over its recent rocket launch to be a "declaration of war," Pyongyang said today. The nation is already increasing its "defense capability including nuclear deterrent in every way" due to US and UN criticism of the launch, which North Korea says put a communications satellite into orbit. Washington says the rocket's payload never got that far, CNN reports.

In a rambling televised statement, North Korea said it would “mercilessly punish anyone who encroaches" on the nation's sovereignty. It also suggested the UN Security Council may have already “declared confrontation and war.” North Korea's state news agency echoed the statement, saying it was "a matter of time" before nuclear war breaks out "due to the war chariot of the 'South Korea-U.S. military alliance.'"

* * * * * I don't think it's being an alarmist to say this is pretty scary stuff. These statements show that Pyongyang is a loose canon and a serious threat to the entire world. What do you think should be Obama's response to North Korea?

    • What you say is a declaration of war .. to me is really saying "we're open for business" as all NK wants to do is manufacture said arms and sell to other enemy states or whoever is buying. Personally, my feeling is we are already at war with nk and iran as well. They are supplying our enemy, that is an act of war.

    • we know what they are holding, the countries who supplied the materials, and the nazi-like mentality of their army. what makes you think that with the whole world watching this enraged tazmanian devil of a country, that they are still able to follow through?

    • the ties here are deeper than what the sheep are told. there must be a solid reason that North Korea has not been put in check with their constant mockery of other nations' interference with their "very important business". what they are trying to prove is sadly what keeps their country weak with poverty.
