Police charge college student with Craigslist killing

This is kinda scary actually...

" A man has been charged with the death of a woman who advertised massage services on Craigslist, Boston police said.

Philip Marcoff, a 22-year-old Boston University student, was charged with the murder of Julissa Brisman, 29, at the Copley Marriott Hotel and the armed robbery and kidnapping of an additional victim at the Westin Hotel.

Boston police say Marcoff has no prior criminal record and is studying pre-med at Boston University. He was stopped on Interstate 95 on the south side of Boston, and was formerly charged Monday evening.

"It appears he was preying on people who are in a vulnerable position ... we are happy to have this man off the street until the investigation is over," said Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis at a press conference Monday evening.

Davis says authorities had the Boston University student under surveillance "for days" before arresting him.

Police say the charges are based on forensic and electronic evidence developed during an around the clock investigation that will continue through Monday evening and in the weeks and months to come."

    • I wouldn't be surprised if people started coming out and blaming Craigslist again. When that happens, the blame is completely shifted, leaving the offender blameless.

    • Hm, I've found a bike, a classic Mamiya camera, and a job all through Craiglist. Nothing to fear people. You can find danger and bad people anywhere. It's all about having common sense and street smarts. When you know it's a bad situation you'll just know.

    • Ugh--I hate that they're using the moniker Craigslist Killer and having all these news segments about the danger!

Seriously, the problem here is not Craigslist, it's this guy. If he hadn't had Craigslist as a way to find victims, he would have used newspaper ads or bulletin boards or the phone book. If he hadn't had any of those, he'd have been picking up sex workers off the streets. Predators look for ways they can get victims into a vulnerable position, period. There is no reason to create fear and panic over a website that is perfectly safe 99.99% of the time.

    • Even when it comes to articles like this I find anything that Fox News says to be a bit excessive if not overly dramatic and craving to make a story more juicier by any means possible.... then again I find Nancy Grace just as annoying...

As for the article itself.... it's the world we live in, what do you expect. This is just another 1 of the thousands of murders to happen this year.

    • Interesting how his fiancee says he wouldn't hurt a flea, and she's sticking by him. Good grief. I wonder if the wedding is still on.......hahahaha

Isn't the wife/girlfriend always the last to know? Charming...

Thank goodness they got this monster.

    • Girls, just be more aware, thrill killers are everywhere. I sincerely wouldn't post my business on the comp, it's such an easy target. . .and if you do, make sure you have some sort of security while you provide a service.

    • Kind of ridiculous to worry about Craigslist. How is advertising "massage" services here any different than advertising in those funky papers every large city has that advertise blatant prostitution ads?

It's sad that this happened and will continue in the future but don't give Craigslist or any other internet service a bad name. This guy could have picked up girls on the street and done the same thing. That wouldn't have made the news as interesting as blasting Craigslist.

    • craigslist is evil, we should send it to Gitmo and waterboard it, then send it hunting with Dick Cheney.

you paranoid citizens make me sick, get over it! 1 out of 100,000,000 people did something wrong, and you're going to throw away craigslist's amazing power to move goods and services like no other? foolish!

    • WAKE UP people the internet is the dirtiest street you will find in the world. I don’t get why when people use the net for bad crap people are freaked out like this is a new thing outside a new medium for the bad guy to use yawl.

    • Nothing wrong with craigslist. This could have also happened with classifieds in the paper.

Blame the people not the medium.

    • Whew thank God they got this guy. You know, they say there are between 30 and 50 active serial killers across the US at any given time. The police are getting better at catching them. Lets give 'em some props yah?

    • Assuming that he is the right guy it makes me wonder what exactly he was thinking when each of those pictures was taken. Very creepy.

    • Yes, let's just not associate with humans entirely, lest we come across a deranged serial killer. In fact, who are you people and why should I trust you?
