Weeks before his death, Gabriel Myers, the 7-year-old Broward boy who hanged himself in the shower of his foster home, had been prescribed a powerful mind-altering drug linked by federal regulators to an increased risk of suicide in children. In all, Gabriel had been prescribed four psychiatric drugs, two or three of which he was taking at the time of his death, said Jack Moss, Broward chief of the state Department of Children & Families. Moss said he is not sure which medications the boy was taking because Margate police took the foster home's medication log as part of an investigation into Gabriel's death last week.

Yeah, drugs: probably not cool. In fact: Most probably not cool.
And all these drugs are being pissed into the water-table and we are all being exposed.
I understand they have found drugs and drug fragments in rain water!!
So, they are in your food, in your beverages. In your frig. In bottled drinks.
But no one's going to do anything about it because the drug companies have the right people paid to keep the noise down.
After all, they want their soft lives, vacation homes and jet-set lifestyle.

Pharmaceutical companies are killing our kids with the claim they have ADHD, ADD, when most just need kind loving care and parents who give a shit! Stop the meds!!! This country has gone pill crazy cuz the "doctor" says that's what we need when in actuality, we're just numbing our youth to what's going on in our government. Shameful...simply shameful!!

For clarification duel/diagnosis is MR ( Mental Retardation) and another mental health problem.
This kid had a very sad history. A drug addicted mom. He went from one relative to another. Poor child.
It would be very hard to hang yourself with one of those handheld shower faucets especially at 67#.
My guess is they're looking at who ever was home with the kid at the time.
I'll be watching for the final word.
This souldn't have happened. - 4 years ago

This kid did not need meds. He needed a home that would nuture him. If he had a troubling past, he just needed a therapist. Meds are not going to solve the problem, especially with a child.

Holy crap, at 7, I barely knew how to work a slinky. How did this kid figure out how to hang himself? at 7 years old?! I hope they investigate this thoroughly, cuz that's weird.

The article said he was in a foster home. That says something is wrong imediately. Why was he not with his natural family?
Did he have any neurological problems, birth defects?
Was his mom a drug addict? Maybe he has had problems since conception. We don't know.
Love can be a powerful healer but we donot know the whole story.
I've done recomendations for care on duel/diagnosis adults that were institutionalized at birth or early childhood.
He could be a child with medical problems at birth and he had no family support group to take care of him....they donot institutionalize anymore but deal with the child on an individual basis trying to get them into a situation as close to a home environment as possible. Maybe this is the case with this child...
Just a few possibilities.
I just can't allow myself to imagine a 7 yo child forming the intent and following through with this sort of thing.
How tragic. - 4 years ago

when are people going to take their health care into their own hands. the entire medical community, not just bid pharma, are profit motivated. they do not have your best interests at heart, but rather their mal-practice insurance payments.

putting kids and meds at that young of an age only helps to develop a chemical dependence. If there is such a thing as a gateway drug its all these anti-depressants and ADD meds that DR's pass out like the lollipop after a shot.

This is so freakin' sad. When was it that someone decided to put kids on "legal" drugs?
When was it that parents decided it was better to have them on drugs, rather than let them go through the natural stages of growing up?
A large study was done two years ago on so called ADHD kids, and it showed by the time they reached puberty, their learning skills had caught up to the rest of the kids and so to did their grades.
And that was without drugs!
The kids that were given drugs did no better than their peers, and the side effects....well, read this article and decide for yourself. - 4 years ago

Exactly!!!! All kids need is love!!!!!! Sooo, don't mean to spark any controversies here, but this is why we should allow single parent and homosexual adoptions. So more children can receive the love they so much need.

Some kids do, actually. While this story is heartbreaking, it involves far more than just some prescriptions - the fact that the system was involved, no biological parent on which he could rely, and the possibility of abuse, to name a few.
Some children are born addicted to street drugs, or impaired because their mother was addicted. Sometimes there is a genetic predisposition toward a chemical imbalance and prescriptions can even that out. There are a myraiad number of reasons why he was on these medications, none of which love alone can solve.
I think that before we can place blame squarely on the medications he was taking, we need to look at the bigger picture of what was happening to him on every level, and we just don't have enough information here to do that... - 4 years ago

A 7 year old on multiple meds?!? That's just insane, unhealthy for his mind. Children shouldn't be exposed to medications like this. It's saddening that people would rather dose their kids up than talk with them.
