Pope Benedict announced that he would visit the Holy Land this May to pray "for the precious gift of unity and peace for the Middle East and for all of humanity," but he would not be going to Gaza. Might the Pope have a heart that pulls him to go to Gaza with ears to hear and eyes to see Jesus in all the people suffering there-be they Christian, Muslim or Jew-for the Bible tells us Jesus loves them all- and we Christians are to too!

      Don't you know that the United States is all about making money...the only reason the U.S. govt. is always quick with food and medical supplies in a natural disaster somewhere is so that the growers and manufacturers can now sell more to the govt. to distribute...at prices much higher than in the open market...hell we even have a provision in the prescription drug purchases that govt. makes that specifically state that the govt. is NOT to negotiate for a lower price..nobody here gives damn about anybody in this world unless there is some gain for us in helping them, so all your posts about the suffering of the Palestinians is falling on deaf ears...no money..no interest...sorry to bring you the bad news , but there it is.

    • Reporters are told by their editors to use the word "targeted killing" when Israel murders. Gaza was called a "war"....................it strikes me as not much of a war................a few rockets made with agricultural fertilizer against the most advanced military hardware in the world................it's a joke to call it a "war". Were babies and children are called "combatants"..................er, perhaps throwing their bottles and soothing rings as missiles?

      The Jewish race were victims in the Holocaust in World II, but now have a stranglehold on all the world's financial institutions, and manipulate a good many political leaders, and own most of the world's media with the purpose of promoting Israel's cause and through obfuscation and omitting facts.............and sometimes, through downright lies. America donates taxpayers cash of $300 billion annually to Israel's 'cause' and the Jews of the world donate even more. Israel is a state awash with money and armaments and has fought so many wars since it came into being in 1948. ........... wars that are not shown in the media owned by the Jewish supporters of the state of Israel.

      Iran has only ever attacked one country in the last 200 years, yet Israel wants to attack Iran next.

      Israel is a pariah nation. It was given by the British Empire to the Holocaust victims to have a home, but they have behaved like a cuckoo in the nest ever since going there............they have thrown all the inhabitants out of the area, and out of all the adjoining areas they have taken since then, and they have swelled their population by opening the country up to any Jew who wants to decamp and go and live there......................this was never supposed to happen.

    • The Zionists, a Jewish political movement, make an Old Testament (bible) claim that they have every right to re-occupy Palestine, the modern day Canaan; and since day one of the movement it has been their goal to re-establish the state of Israel. They succeeded in 1947 when the United Nations General Assembly passed Resolution 181 to partition Palestine into Jewish and Arab states. The resolution served to escalate conflict between Israel and Palestine. History has shown that Israel continues its invasion and military occupation of that neighbouring land, and as a result, lives are made unbearable in Palestine
      You can't compare Israel to other nations ..............Israel is built on a religion, for a religion....it is a fundamentalist religious state.....to be accepted as an Israeli you must be Jewish, and they treat Israeli Muslims and Christians as second class citizens (or worse). Israel is religious fundamentalism at it's very very worst. They don't have suicide bombers ................ but the IDF is no army............their behaviour shows that they are a band of genocide criminals.

      I WANT THE WORLD TO SEE ISRAEL FOR WHAT IT IS despite all the Jewish owned MEDIA CORPORATIONS in the world portraying Israel as the victim.

      Only when the world bands together and calls HALT to Israel's expansionism can we have peace.

      Personally I don't think anyone has a right to take Palestinian land and give it away. Would Britain have a right to take Mexico and give it to the United States? No. Neither did they have a right to give Palestinian land to Jews. As for the Bible..........it's like Eve giving Adam an apple. Do you believe that is what happened? Forget the land of Canaan stuff..........and move on..........fact is you displaced the Palestinians and you don't want them to stay....you want them to run away for Israel so you can expand.....you even say so in you in some messages on here......and the fact that the Palestinian refugees around the world are not allowed to return to the Palestinian state.

      Who else has AIPAC colluded with on the Hill? If the tapes are out there, Harman got caught, but isn't this a much larger story than just one woman bedazzled by men with money in their pockets and nuclear warheads in their backyards. It is time AIPAC register as a foreign lobbyist.

      And now it gets interesting. Will the Democratic Party establishment ignore this latest development in a longstanding corruption scandal? With Harman's next primary more than a year away, ignoring her quid-pro-quo may seem to be a viable strategy. But if ignoring it doesn't work, then the party establishment may need to distract people with something even more insidious than a Democratic Party congresswoman in bed with agents of a foreign power. Diverting attention elsewhere could make establishment Democrats do something they have so far refused to do -- prosecute the Bush administration torturers, shine the spotlight on those who gave the orders and provided legal cover to water board and more. This is the kind of diversion a progressive Democrat could relish. Impeach the war criminals. Prosecute those who gave the orders to torture.

      Since the Harman-AIPAC story broke -- again -- friends and bloggers, including members of the Progressive Democrats of America have emailed me, asking, "Will you run again in 2010?" My response has been, "Or sooner?"

    • The late Edward Said explained his title in what he wrote: "The extermination of the Native Americans can be admitted, the morality of Hiroshima attacked, the national flag (of the US) publicly committed to flames. It appeared boldly and courageously in Pilger's book, and it's long past time for it be prominent in the mainstream as well to finally expose Israeli crimes and demand they end. It's especially important now as Israel just began an intensive military assault against the defenseless people of Gaza, which, before it ends, may result in many deaths, great destruction of property and an overwhelming humanitarian disaster even beyond the one already existing in The Occupied Territories.

      Few people anywhere have suffered more or longer than the beleaguered Palestinians. For nearly four decades they've lived under a harsh and unending Israeli occupation of their land. They've endured a continued assault to seize it, a loss of their personal and economic rights and a denial of any chance for justice or their very humanity. These courageous people remain isolated in their own land with little support from the outside. Yet it's never broken their spirit as they continue their heroic efforts to survive and struggle to gain their freedom.

      With amazement the world public has noticed in recent weeks that war crimes had apparently been committed in Gaza. (1) Even Israeli soldiers and military staff now report about their own cruelties against the Palestinian population, cruelties that we do not even know from movies. (2) The stylish T-shirts, that promote the shooting of pregnant Palestinian women by indicating that in this way you can kill two human beings with one bullet, appeared strange to people abroad, too. (3) Moreover, the appointment of Avigdor Lieberman as Israeli foreign minister horrifies the public. (4) There would be further reasons to be disgusted, like the ongoing ethnic cleansing in Jerusalem, the plans for expanding the illegal settlements, some killings, the abduction of Gazan fishermen and so on, but these details do not enter the global discourse, because, well, because they never did. The question is: how genuine is the amazement about what happened in Gaza?

      Did anything change in Israeli politics? Are those really completely new phenomena, suddenly coming up in the discourse, out of thin air? Or do we only witness the consequences of a continuing strategy that had begun more than sixty years ago? There are good arguments for the latter alternative, especially when you look at the facts. Let us, for example, revisit the year 1948 ...

      Deir Yassin and the Human Rights

      1948 was a special year. It was marked by Plan D, the Israeli plan to ethnically cleanse Palestine. (5) Jewish troups expelled about 700,000 people from the indigenous population of the country and killed many of the men in combat age. Even in 1936, after the Palestinian revolt, the Palestinian elite had been persecuted. This was shortly after the first Palestinian party was founded which was to represent the interests of the native population in the two fronts struggle against the British occupation and the Zionist conquerers. "Punishments" like the demolition of residence houses were firstly used by the British and were adopted later by the Zionists. In 1948, several Jewish terror groups were known, like the Haganah, Irgun, the Stern gang, Lechi and others. They killed, took the land away from the local people and later contributed several prime ministers who were accepted by the world public without any difficulty - very similar to today.

      Don't think that the pogroms against the population of Palestine during the execution of Plan D were secret. When the future Prime Minister Menachem Begin had the Arab village of Deir Yassin attacked on April 9 and many of its inhabitants killed (certainly including children and women) in order to terrorize and horrify the people, this was covered in the world press. Begin defended his deed with a typical Israeli bonmot: "The massacre of Deir Yassin not only had its justification – without the 'victory' of Deir Yassin there had never been a State of Israel." (6) Four years later, the same Begin attempted to kill the German chancellor Adenauer (7) and in 1978 he received the Nobel Peace Prize.

    • The Jews awere given the land to accomodate the survivors of the Holocaust. The land was given by the British Empire............the land belonged to the Palestinian people, and the British Empire had taken it by force.....it was not theirs to give. Somewhere I have a big piece on this by John F. Kennedy.............
      Fact is, if you steal a Rolex watch from me and then give it to your wife.................Who has the right to that Rolex watch?
      Of course it is mine and you had no right to give away/ sell stolen goods.

      Same with the land of Palestine....it did not belong to the British Empire so they could not have legally given it to the Jews.

      Furthermore....the Jews it were given to were to accomodate the people that went there in 1948, and their descendants. It was never to be a free for all Jews.....since then they have been inviting Jews from perfectly peaceful countries (from London for example) to go and live there permanently.

      I believe the Jews are greedy and expansionsit ( don't argue....look at all the wars they have fought) and are unwilling to behave in a civil manner in Israel. They have committed genocide since day one......displacing and ethnically cleansing the Palestinian people since they went there. They have fought Lebanon in 2006, and Gaza....do I have to remind you all of the Gaza Strip,
      the West Bank and Jerusalem.
      Their ethos of war and killing unarmed men, women and children, and then shamelessly lying .......... justification by lies lies lies. They do it on here. They purchase our media to control it. They have a lobby (AIPAC) TO MANIPULATE AND CONTROL CONGRESS.....they shamelessly make rubbish of our democratic system......buying our representatives and then in turn they get a handout of $3 billion per annum of our hard earned taxpayers money.......to spend on war and building settlements on newly stolen lands.
      We'd want to wake up, before they bring us into war with IRAN which is their objective.

      So what if they call me antisemetic? They cannot sue me for libel.....you cannot libel someone for telling the truth.
      Defemation.....you can only take someone for defemation if they damage your reputation....Israel has no reputation to be damaged.

      What is so different to Israeli heads of state killing Palestinian people and Lebanese people.............was Saddam any different? WHY ARE ISRAELI HEADS OF STATE NOT TRIED AND HANGED LIKE SADDAM?

      Go for them
      Hang them
      Call me antisemitic if you wish. A murderer is a murderer regardless of religion.
      For peace in the Middle East we need to be rid of Israel............a solution....they are not interested in PEACE or solutions.....the have breached all past agreements.
      Let's work it out so we can have PEACE. Repatriate these people to wherever they came from. Nobody is going to kill them in Germany anymore.

      Highroller, I won't argue since in your above statement you made a demand that no one argue with you, and as the old saying goes " any fool can argue, and most of them do" ...so instead, what I am going to do is suggest that you consider the ridiculousness of your suggestion that the Jews be repatriated to wherever they came from..we've heard that kind of idiocy from racist here in America for years.." send the blacks back to Africa" "load all the Mexicans up in buses and send em back to Mexico" " put all these damned Vietnamese back on the boats and send em back" etc. etc. etc.
      Send the Jews back to where ever they came from....get a grip, and realize that isn't going to happen, as much as you might desire it just is not going to take place.
      Just as the United States provoked a war with Mexico by encouraging Americans to declare themselves a republic in the Mexican state of Tejas and then immediately recognizing that republic and pledging military intervention if the government of Mexico tried to quell that rebellion...declarfe war aginst Mexico then seize every thing from Tejas to California and demanding that Mexico cede it all to the U.S. as a condition to end the war...well you get the point...the current people living in the southwestern U.S. are never going to go back to the European countries they came from and return Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, California, Utah, and Nevada to it's rightful owner, which is Mexico. Nor will the country of Mexico be returned to the Aztecs, and Yaqui.
      I'm sure you get the point I'm making, the victors and their allies make the boundries conform to their wishes.. because Germany lost WWII, they did not get to use the same logic that we used against Mexico, they were not allowed to call their territorial grabs "manifest destiny" as we did after the Mexican American war,...Saddam Hussien did not get to say "well, we the people of Iraq and Kuwait fought a war, Kuwait lost and the agreement to end the war include the ceding of Kuwait to Iraq" Only the United states and it's friends get to do that..Now we justify England in their grab of northern Ireland, we justify Isreal in their grab of Palestine...just as we justify our grab of what used to be Norte Mexico...you just have to accept that the U.S. is a champion of the idea that "might makes right" whether you like it or not, or you think it is unjust is a moot point....when the capitalist interest in this country think it will financially benefit them for the Palestinian people to have their own country ....then and only then will there be a push from the U.S. to call off the dogs and let the Palestinian people set up a sovereign state...by dogs I mean to imply the dogs of war...not the Israeli people

      Well, there certainly can be an argument for these lands to return to Spain. However, as Mexico rebelled and forced Spain out, there came a new situation where sovereignty and who gets what became a matter for struggle.

      Under-handedness has always been the mark of politics - has it ever been different? Ever?
      It's been the cry and inheritance for eons.

      If we want to gripe about human nature in America, we could look at some of the stuff they pulled against the Indian villages. Especially the small, out of the way, not talked about stuff.

    • He would probably say give the lands back to the original inhabitants that God had given the Lands to. And stop killing and torturing the Palestinian people and let them go back home where they came from. This lands in the Middle East should be returned to the rightful owners in the beginning as God had it!

The right wing fundamentalist would want them to demand a crusade...the left wing would want him to wash the feet of the leader of Hamas..thats the nature of religion , it's a tool to coerce people to do the bidding of the powers that be at the moment.

    • This is such a difficult issue. People in Gaza are suffering almost immeasurable harm but at the same time I feel for people who have their home and schools shelled by terrorists that use Gaza as a launching pad.

      Gaza has to commit to no missile launches into Israel and stop proving shelter to terrorists, i.e.. Hamas. Then maybe life will get better. Fighting the Jews is a waste of time.

      Think Jesus would say it's cool to nail a whole nation Jews to a cross for the rest of the worlds peace of mind? Or how about a nation of Palestinians? I don't think Jesus would've taken sides, I think he would have healed the divide.

They are suffering constant bombardments and sonic booms from low flying aircraft. They need food: bread and water. Children and babies are hungry...people have no money to buy food. The price of food has doubled and tripled due to the situation. We cannot drink water from the ground here as it is salty and not hygienic. People must buy water to drink. They have no income, no opportunities to get food and water from outside and no opportunities to secure money inside of Gaza. They have no hope.

      "Without electricity children are afraid. No light at night. No oil or candles...Thirsty children are crying, afraid and desperate...Many children have been violently thrown from their beds at night from the sonic booms. Many arms and legs have been broken. These planes fly low over Gaza and then reach the speed of sound. This shakes the ground and creates shock waves like an earthquake that causes people to be thrown from their bed. I, myself weigh 120 kilos and was almost thrown from my bed due to the shock wave produced by a low flying jet that made a sonic boom.

      "Gaza cannot sleep...the cries of hungry children, the sullen faces of broken men and women who are just sitting in their hungry emptiness with no light, no hope, and no love. These actions are War Crimes!"
