Most cities are rescued by:
SAN DIEGO—On April 25th, Invisible Children, a media-based organization dedicated to ending Africa’s longest-running war went global for their third and largest Awareness Event to date: a 100-city, ten country rally called the RESCUE, to demand attention for the plight of children abducted and forced to fight as soldiers in the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA), terrorizing Central East Africa for the past 23 years.
On Saturday, tens of thousands of RESCUE participants gathered, abducted themselves in empathetic demonstration to stand in solidarity with the abducted, and marched through their city centers to a location known as their ‘LRA’ camp, where they wrote letters to their politicians and rallied for a mogul to come out and ‘RESCUE’ them by making a public statement on behalf of the child soldiers. The cries of these participants were answered. ‘RESCUERS’ included Kristen Bell, Kirsten Dunst, Ben McKenzie, Tom Arnold, Tom Shadyac, Pete Wentz, Val Kilmer, Steve-O, Jeff Foxworthy, Switchfoot, Vincent Jackson, John Lewis, and numerous congressmen and congressional representatives.
In those cities where ‘RESCUERS’ did not come out, the participants are holding strong. Reinforcements, known as ‘Rescue Riders’, are coming from nearby event locations to those 11 ‘UNRESCUED’ cities. These dedicated activists will remain in these cities until someone of influence gives a voice to these abducted child soldiers. Their motto: no one goes home until every city is ‘RESCUED’.’
The political impact of this event is anticipated to be historical not only for northern Uganda and surrounding areas, but for the power of this new generation of activists.
Ten countries. 100 cities. One collective voice: bring the child soldiers home.
