Prius' Unintended Acceleration: Toyota says stop adding extra floormats

Toyota's Prius, love it or hate it, has not been without issues. This article goes in depth on an issue Toyota refuses to acknowledge, that Priuses go crazy and will randomly accelerate up to 90MPH, smoking the brakes as you madly press the pedal to stop the thing.

Does this remind anyone of the 1980s Audi 5000, other than me?

Toyota's response? Stop adding extra floor mats! Even if, you know, you didn't use any floor mats and the car still tried to kill you by doing 90 down an exit ramp on your test drive.

The rest is @ the link, definitely worth the read.

    • From the original article:

"Apparently, hours after Robinson purchased his used 2005 Prius in Tacoma, the car began to handle funny, and as he was driving back to the dealership, the car took off. Robinson stomped on the brake and the emergency brake, but the car wouldn't slow down.

He exited the freeway and shot through an intersection safely, but then lost control and drove through a convenience store. Robinson escaped before the Prius and the building burst into flames."

Hmm, maybe put it in neutral? Seems like an easier move than ditching the car into a wall or something...
