let us not forget CAFTA (which was subverted by indigenous peoples but later renamed to the cuban something rather) which is the legal takeover of the central american resources for "free trade". we need to support fair trade ideals, not capitalistic ones.

I have to agree with this. Monsanto wouldn't be there either and their GM corn wouldn't have transgenically polluted all of the corn varieties of Mexico if not for NAFTA. We have done quite a bit to ruin the lives of farmers in Mexico and bring on more poverty, and now, diseases. There were supposed to be environmental standards attached to NAFTA. What environmental standards? The standard to pollute at will?

The Nations signed on to NAFTA and the WTO are currently blocked from enforcing some of their own environmental protection laws because they are viewed by the WTO world courts as being "barriers to free trade."
