I have family that lives in Pakistan, and trust me when I say that fighting the Taliban is near impossible. These aren't just people against the United States, these are people fighting for their lives and their dignity against an American controlled government, that has spent decades forcing this area into debt they cannot repay...destroying the economy and making village life all that much harder. These people know what they are doing, they live in a land that creates exact replicas of American weapons just by looking at them, they know the terrain better than any analyst ever will, and unlike the soldiers the government sends to do their dirty work, they have a goal. It isn't just a "terrorist" group, it's a group of people that have had enough of their people being exploited and are taking EXTREMIST, actions in order to have their message heard. Maybe the US will think again before bombing an entire wedding party of Pakistani/Afghani citizens just for "suspecting" they are with the Taliban.

Not unless the Taliban are suddenly equipped with rockets, bombs, helicopters,Predators and jet attack aircraft. Death from the skies is Terror writ large. Even Karzai is forced to admit the actions are indiscriminate murder : which is why he howls impotently about the children and women dying. Just saying 'Taliban' is an excellent distrction from imagining the smells of cordite, phosphorous and burned flesh, though.
Anybody ever bother to tell you that the official stories about these operations are absolute crocks ? - 3 years ago

Time was the Taliban were the government. Everybody got a little nuts after being shot at by strangers for years. The U.S.S.R. was bad enough but the C.I.A. left things go for a while. Then came the Yanks with blood in their eye and no clue. Here's an officer's take http://www.thenation.com/doc/20090525/hayden/single?rel=nofollow
