Katie Price & Peter Andre split

Image
AnnieMole
After a four and half year fairytale marriage, Peter Andre and Katie Price are said to be separating.

A statement said the couple "have both requested that the media respect their families' privacy at this difficult time".

Mmm probably the first time the not normally publicity shy couple want to be out of the public eye.

    • I'm laying my cards on the table; I like Peter Andre. Don't get me wrong, he's an unadulterated cheese monster. He's oozes cheese from every fake tanned pore. But - he's funny. Sometimes you need a bit of light entertainment and he delivers every time.

    • Ha ha! You're reading the comments aren't you? People love this stuff, mainly because it makes them feel better about their own lives which can be, let's face it, a little dry, particularly in a recession. An interest in celebrity news is not a crime - it shows you're an empathetic human being who cares about other people. I don't know why people get so much joy in putting down these "z-list" celebrities. Noone's making you read this stuff or watch their show. I say good on them - they've made a whole career through the general public's interest in them, at times at their own emotional expense. If you're not interested, move on. Current covers politics and topical news too you know...

    • Pathetic, I know, but I always thought these two made a pretty decent couple. Dumb & Dumber, perhaps?

The first thing I thought when I saw this was oops, there goes another celebrity couple's relationship ruined by the curse of reality TV. Doesn't it seem that all these couples who broadcast their lives to the world end up spliting? Jessica Simpson and Nick what's-his-name, Hulk and Linda Hogan, Kerry Katona and Mark Croft (though they've got back together), Travis Barker and Shanna Moakler (off and on since their show), Britney and K-Fed...and the list goes on. Reality TV is poison to celebrity relationships, I tell you! POISON!

    • My heart bleeds. Not.

Anyone who decides to get married in that monstrosity of a meringue dress, is already declaring to world that their marriage is a joke. Even if unintentional.

    • This news brings down the curtain on a union which had been sold as a fairy tale romance by their PR folk. What will become of their 'celebrity status' without each other?

    • Everyone said they wouldn't last and so here it is: they've split. All the cynics said a love found on a celebrity reality TV show and delivered in installments through OK magazine and ITV2 couldn't be for keeps. Well they were right and I for one think its a shame. And that doesn't make me a chav princess. I just hoped that for once, they'd make it as a family. So to all the doubters, you were right. But its a hollow victory.

So why is that celebs just can't keep a marriage together? Is it the pressures of living in the spotlight? The greed? the fame? Or is it just a symptom of modern society falling apart? Either way, its a sad day, not least for their kids.

Well put alv782 and I reckon the media were really waiting for this day to happen (although who knows what ITV are about to do with thier new show that's about to launch).

Four and half years was probably over four years longer than a lot of doubters thought it would last.

I'm sure having their marriage constantly on TV isn't particularly helpful when you're having problems - but many people will say they bought in on themselves & we didn't ask to see them on TV. But with the amount of times Katie & Pete were "uncovered" or "between the sheets" or "secret diaried" - some people must have been watching them - or ITV wouldn't keep commissioning their shows - would they?

    • Oh noes! Who cares?

Funny how they will likely be upset by media intervention at this point right up till the moment they try and kick start their solo careers again
